Job Description

GROUNDSKEEPER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Perform groundskeeping duties.
  2. Mow lawn using hand and power tools.  Mowing the lawn may involve using a variety of lawnmowers not limited to ride-on, stand-on, self-propelled walk behind, push behind, etc.
  3. Trim edges around walks, flower beds, shrub beds, parking lots, and walls, etc. utilizing power/edger trimmer.
  4. Basic landscape (planting flowers, grass, shrubs, bushes, spreading mulch, replenishing soil, etc.).
  5. Keeping grounds free from trash, litter, and debris, and emptying trash receptacles.
  6. Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger, ten feet or lower.
  7. Prune or trim shrubs, hedges, or other vegetation using shears, pruners, or chain saws.

  9. Gather and remove litter, dispose of trash or waste equipment.
  10. Maintain equipment to ensure proper function.
  11. Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
  12. Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
  13. Removes leaves using a gas-powered blower or leaf vacuum. Where power blower is not acceptable utilize hand rakes.
  14. Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, flower beds, around building walls.
  15. Removes weeds from flower beds and shrub beds.
  16. Rake mulch and prune grounds as needed.
  17. Removing snow by using various hand tools or a snowblower.
  18. Stage equipment, supplies, and material for daily, weekly operation.
  19. Lift/move heavy objects, materials, shrubs, plants, hand tools, power equipment, (i.e. load equipment into the van/ truck: carry heavy supplies).
  20. Duties may require climbing a ladder if necessary.
  21. Clean equipment after usage (i.e. rinse hand tools, clean power tools, machinery)
  22. Maintains landscaping vehicles in a proper clean manner.
  23. Comply with the rules and regulations set forth by Clean Corp.
  24. Participate in employee meetings on and/or off the job site.
  25. Replenish supplies upon return from the job site.
  26. Be flexible as work schedules and locations are subject to change.
  27. This does not limit the assignment of duties or exclude the performance of other duties not mentioned as assigned by your supervisor.
  28. Follow SAFETY in every aspect of daily work.
  29. Maintain appropriate behaviors when traveling/performing/socializing

  • Practice the proper way to bend, carry, and kneel.
  • Operate landscaping tools and power tools safely, according to owners operating manual for hand or power tools.
  • Ensure that, on job sites, unused equipment/chemicals are kept to the side and orderly fashion to prevent others from tripping over.
  • Ensure proper procedures when filling power equipment with gasoline.
  • Ensure proper procedure for filling up two-cycle engines with the proper fuel to engine oil mix ratio.

CLEANER RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Commercial general cleaning and residential cleaning services that will include:
    • Bathroom disinfection and maintenance
    • Window cleaning
    • Carpet vacuuming and shampooing
    • Floorcare (stripping waxing and buffing)
    • Trash removal
    • Sweeping, dusting, dry-wet mopping, vacuuming.
    • General and special commercial and residential disinfecting services that will require wearing protective equipment (hazmat suit, mask, eye protection, gloves, etc.)
    • Clean equipment after usage (i.e. rinse mops and wipe machinery).  The cleaning of vans may also be requested.
    • Comply with the rules and regulations set forth by Clean Corp.
    • Lift/move heavy objects on occasion (i.e. bring buffing machine upstairs/downstairs, load equipment into the van, carry heavy supplies (chemical buckets).
    • Duties may require climbing a ladder if necessary (e.g., change a light bulb, clean surfaces, and/or high dusting).
    • Ensure proper cleaning chemicals are diluted as per specifications and utilized properly.  This requires the ability to identify and read labels.
    • Replenish supplies upon return from the job site.
    • Participate in on-going training and attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
    • This does not limit the assignment of duties to exclude the performance of other duties not mentioned as assigned by your supervisor.
    • Be flexible as work schedules and locations are subject to change.
      2. Ensure SAFETY in every aspect of the program by means of:
      • Inquire about appropriate usage/procedures of chemicals and/or read product labels.
      • Use caution signs at all times when sweeping, stripping, mopping, and waxing.
      • Ensure that, on job sites, unused equipment/chemicals are kept to the side in an orderly fashion to prevent others from tripping.
      • Operate machinery safely (i.e. unplug the machine when replacing a pad.
      • Load equipment into van ensuring passengers’ safety and good visibility for drivers.
      • Practice the proper way to bend, carry, lift, and kneel.
      • Maintain appropriate behaviors when traveling/performing/socializing
Qualifications

1. A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.

2. A practical knowledge of electric and gasoline power tools (ride-on lawn mowers, walk behind lawn mowers, trimmers, and hedgers, weed whackers, blowers, etc.)

3. A practical knowledge of various hand tools (loppers, saws, shovels, rakes, hedge shears, bypass pruners, etc.)

4. An ability to communicate courteously.

5. A neat appearance and must be able to obtain and wear a Company uniform.

6. Knowledge of proper mixing of fuel and engine oil ratio for small gasoline engines power tools.

7. Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping services

8. Basic knowledge of snow plowing using hand tools and gasoline power snow blowers.

9. Basic knowledge of commercial and residential cleaning services.

10. Valid NYS DL is preferred

11. OSHA Certification a plus.

12.  Demonstrate skills in using hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.  Demonstrate skills in using powered landscaping/grounds maintenance power equipment such as a variety of lawnmowers (ride-on, walk-behind, push behind, self-propeller, etc.) hedge trimmers, weed whackers-edgers, leaf blowers, snowblowers, electric clippers, pruning saws, chain saws, etc.
