Division: Grounds & Golf (GRG007)
MKRS Grounds Irrigation Technician
Primary Responsibilities:Must be able to read irrigation and landscape blueprint for scale drawings. Able to design irrigation plans which incorporates trees, shrubs, lawns and groundcovers. Capable of installing various irrigation systems from blueprint; capable of troubleshooting from the irrigation controllers to hotel satellite systems. Must be able to rectify irrigation problems from leaks to the irrigation control stations and program a multitude of irrigation controllers. Assist with landscape installation; able to discern the various landscape plants by scientific, common or Hawaiian name. Operate a backhoe, gas cart, verticutter, sod cutter and forklift. Initiate purchase requests for supplies and parts; keep and inventory of supplies.
Essential Duties:

  1. Design irrigation plans which incorporates trees, shrubs, lawns, and groundcovers.
  2. Must be able to read irrigation and landscape blueprint for scale drawings.
  3. Install various irrigation systems from blueprint; capable of troubleshooting from irrigation controllers or satellite systems.
  4. Repair problems with irrigation systems.
  5. Program various irrigation controllers.
  6. Able to identify plants by their scientific, common or Hawaiian name.
  7. Operate a backhoe, gas cart, verticutter, sod cutter and forklift.
  8. Keep equipment and vehicle clean and checked.
  9. Dig and cover trenches for pipes.
  10. Direct and train lower rated staff in the department.
  11. Splice low voltage wires in relationship to RCVs and irrigation control mechanisms.
  12. Replace lawn, plants and landscaped area that is disturbed to do irrigation work.
  13. Assist in special projects.
  14. Follow both written and verbal requests from supervisors.
  15. Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:
  1. Assist other positions in the department.

Working Conditions:
  1. Works outdoors in various weather conditions.
  2. Travel throughout the resort to both hotels and private residences.

Work Hours:
  1. Must be able to work shift and days set by the Supervisor, Manager or Director.
  2. Must be able to work over 40 hours per week as needed.

Equipment Use:
  1. Ability to use the telephone or radio, specialty radios for various irrigation systems and operate remote control units for irrigation controllers.
  2. Ability to use various tools and equipment i.e. backhoe, trencher, OHM meter, volt meter, shovel, pruner, bolo knife, socket set, wrench, pliers, o'o bar, rake, pitchfork, hoe, loppers, sickle, etc.
  3. Drive utility cart.

Mental and Physical Demands:
  1. Ability to do heavy physical work, i.e. digging trenches, laying irrigation pipes, repairing landscape.
  2. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
  3. Able to manage stressful and challenging situations.
  4. Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel during most of work shift.
  5. Able to operate required vehicles/equipment, forklift, backhoe, etc.
  6. Able to lift/carry and load/unload various equipment and tools into work vehicles, weighing up to 50lbs.

Communication Demands:
  1. Must have the ability to communicate verbally to employees, manager and guests/clients and homeowners.
  2. Able to follow both written and verbal directions from managers.
  3. Ability to communicate over the phone or radio.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  1. Able to read landscape blueprint, manuals and other material related to job.
  2. 3 years work related experience
  3. Driver's license required to operate company vehicles/equipment
  4. Safely operate vehicles
  5. Entry level electrical background.
