Ground Network Engineer Intern

KBR's Science and Space division is seeking a Ground Network Engineer Intern to support our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org). The Ground Network Engineer Intern position provides experience and technical knowledge in the areas of Satellite Communications hardware maintenance, engineering, and configuration of ground station equipment serviced by the on-site Landsat Ground Station (LGS) and investigation into Ground station as a Service it a cloud environment. The candidate will support the Ground Network for the Landsat mission. This includes supporting the development, integration and test, and deployment of RF systems. The candidate will work with technical support and system engineering team for the various Landsat Ground Network (GN) hardware and software systems; including SatCom RF antennas and equipment, automation systems, data capture and routing systems, etc.
Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
  • Understanding of RF Design principles
  • Radio Frequency (RF) / Intermediate Frequency (IF) test equipment knowledge
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and diagrams
  • Integration and test knowledge
  • Satellite Took Kit (STK) knowledge
  • Understanding of and Ground Station as a Service, and/or cloud computing environments
  • Ability to design and implement technological processes to automate tasks
  • Experience with scripting, software programming and automation

The applicant should also be familiar with general Microsoft Office applications, communications packages, and have an ability to write and publish results.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is aligned with the South Dakota Space Grant Consortium in support of the EROS Data Center and TSSC 5 Program. As such, the selected candidate must meet the required active student status with a South Dakota college or university.
  • Threeyears of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account.
  • Primary functions of this role will require some regular onsite work in the Sioux Falls, SD office.

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
