Purpose Statement
Welcomes guests to restaurant and escorts guests to seat, providing menus and assisting guests with any special seating needs or requests. Rings up guest checks in a professional courteous manner, providing excellent guest services at all times.
Primary Activities
- Welcome guests to restaurant in a friendly, professional and courteous manner. Greets all guests who enter the restaurant immediately up their entry.
- Determine number in guest party and any special seating needs and seats the guests quickly and efficiently.
- Working with the manager in charge of the shift, maintains awareness of each server’s assigned area and ensures appropriate distribution of guest seating.
- Working with the manager in charge of the shift,, ensures seating as quickly as possible, communicating number in party and seating preferences.
- May be required to assist servers with taking and serving drink orders.
- Assists as needed or assigned with other responsibilities such as collecting and organizing menus, maintaining hostess area clean and organized.
- Maintains familiarity with and follows all policies and procedures of the job as a Shoney’s Team Member.
- Receives payment from guests, processes tguest checks, makes change and issues receipts in accordance with cash handling policies/procedures.
- Counts money correctly and accurately.
- Writes and calls in “to go” orders taken both in person and by telephone.
- Assists as needed or assigned with maintaining cleanliness of public areas, including but not limited to wiping down cashier station, booths, front glass doors etc.
- Maintains pleasant, friendly and professional demeanor with guests and coworkers at all times.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other essential job tasks as assigned.
Required
- Basic communication skills sufficient to understand and implement instructions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively and professionally with all guests and co-workers at all times.
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple job duties and maintain composure during peak operational periods.
- Preferred if has prior experience in food service and/or preparation.
Physical Requirements
- Continuously utilizes speech, hearing, near vision, eye/hand coordination, color definition, manual/bi-manual dexterity.
- Frequently stands, walks, lifts and/or carries, pushes and pulls up to 20 pounds.
- Must have the ability to balance tray carrying food and drinks while walking.
- Occasionally lifts and/or carries up to 30 pounds, reaches, works closely with others.
- Occasionally utilizes sense of smell, far vision, pushes/pulls, bends/stoops/twists at the waist, squats, kneels, walks on uneven surfaces, works around chemicals/cleaners.
WORK CONDITIONS/HOURS
- Hours vary according to assigned shift, including weekends and/or holidays, opening or closing.
- Normal restaurant working conditions. Frequently exposed to heat and cold.
