This position is a split role working to support the weekend supervisor and propagation team. The Technician will work 40hrs a week; three days during the week and two during the weekend.
The Technician will have a background in Agriculture, Biology, or related field. The successful candidate will perform work to support the operations of a Crop Protection Herbicide Discovery Group. The Technician will need to work with various team members to orchestrate the timely propagation, screening, and advancement of different projects.
Responsibilities:
- Propagation and staging of bioassays to be used by multiple teams to determine efficacy of experimental herbicide candidates and develop herbicide products. This work includes but may not be limited to
- Propagation of diverse crop and weed species in different soils/growth media under protected greenhouse or growth chamber environment
- Understanding of and capacity to learn about the variable nurturing requirement of different crop and weed species for successful propagation
- Staging of experimental units with uniform number and size of plants appropriate for herbicide screening
- Constant learning and scientific attitude to improve the plant propagation methods with better resource productivity and sustainability
- Coordinate experimental designs in greenhouse to evaluate the quality of propagules/seeds: This research will require numerous biological observations necessary to support plant propagation research efforts; data collection, analysis and generation of reports using various data software applications; ability to present summary of technical results.
- Proper disposal of unused or leftover poor-quality bioassays, and proper disposal of noxious species
Requirements:
· BS in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, Biological Sciences or closely related field
· Experience with plant propagation
· Experience in research laboratory
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Experience in translating oral and written directions into empirical reality
· Experience in observation and paying close attention to detail
· Familiarity with safety procedures
· Strong track record of reliably delivering on-time results
· Strong interpersonal skills. Willing to work in a group of diverse people while supporting team members to meet team objectives.
· As appropriate, possess the ability to work independently.
· Experience with computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
· Familiarity with and interest in conducting greenhouse, controlled environment chamber, and/or field trials with experimental chemicals
