This design position is responsible for developing assigned layouts and graphics for Garden Gate, Horticulture, and Fine Gardening print magazines. The designer will also execute design assignments for digital platforms, including the brand websites, seminars, social media, and email promotions, while maintaining brand quality and styles. Able to collaborate with editors and other art staff to complete projects with direction from the Executive Art Director.
Professional Responsibilities
Work with art and editorial staff to develop page layouts for bi-monthly print magazines, including photo selection/procurement and the editing/revision processes.
Keep the photography archive up to date with proper keywording and usage details for images used in each issue.
Assist on local photo and video shoots by securing props, assisting with art direction, and providing universal support for the Photographer/Videographer.
Support Digital Media Manager and editors by resizing photos and providing graphics for online articles and videos.
Support social media efforts with graphic needs (including, but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok and Pinterest.
Additional design, editorial, and marketing support duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications
A professional demeanor is necessary for all positions at Active Interest Media. In addition to courteous, friendly, businesslike behavior, the following qualifications are fundamental to this position:
BA in graphic design or related major
3+ years of previous graphic design experience
Demonstrate skill in print page layout with a high degree of quality, speed, and accuracy. Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Experience with InCopy/InDesign workflows is a plus.
Working knowledge of social media platforms
Comfort working in online content management systems, such as WordPress.
Proven communication skills
Enthusiasm for subject matter
Proven ability to work with others in a cooperative team effort
Proven ability to efficiently manage and organize your own time
Willingness to be a stand-in model for photos as needed. Comfort being in front of the video camera is a plus.
