REPORTS TO: Director of Development and Strategic Analysis

WORKSITE: Omaha, NE

Immigrant Legal Center and Refugee Empowerment Center merged on October 1, 2022, uniting two of Nebraska’s most well-respected immigrant-serving agencies. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Grants Manager will be a part of the development team and report directly to the Director of Development and Strategic Analysis. The Grant Writer is responsible for the following main responsibilities (1) grant writing, (2) research, and (3) grant management. They will oversee the entire lifecycle of grants, from proposal submission to closeout with high attention to detail and excellent team collaboration. The ideal Grants Writer would have experience managing multiple grants, have excellent writing skills, and be able to collaborate with others.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Grant Writing

  • Collaborate with our team members and program leaders to gain a deep understanding of our organization's needs, goals, and priorities. Establish effective communication channels to stay informed about ongoing projects, funding requirements, and programmatic developments. To appropriately write grant proposals, applications, LOIs, grant reports, etc.  
  • Create persuasive grant proposals, applications, Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), and grant reports that align seamlessly with our agency's tone, objectives, and mission. Tailor each submission to the specific requirements and priorities of funding organizations, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of their mission and guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of all grant-related materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with guidelines. Produce error-free grant reports, free from grammatical and spelling errors, to maintain a professional and polished image for our organization.
  • Craft compelling narratives that effectively communicate the impact and significance of our programs. Develop clear and well-defined project objectives in grant proposals and LOIs, illustrating how our initiatives address critical issues and contribute to our mission.
  • Maintain a proactive and organized approach to meet grant application deadlines, ensuring timely submissions and follow-ups. 
  • Adhere to ethical standards in grant writing and ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines. 

Grants and Contracts Research

  • Identify grant-based opportunities, collaborate with the appropriate internal teams and coordinate application processes to ensure efficient and accurate creation and execution of grant proposals. 
  • Establish a standardized grant initiation procedure to ensure that each new grant is accompanied by a well-structured and streamlined process. This process will encompass every phase from initial evaluation to funding acquisition and post-award management, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and optimal utilization of resources. 
  • Ensure that potential funding opportunities are aligned with ILC+REC’s mission, goals, and program needs.  
  • Research and identify new funding opportunities with government agencies, local and national foundations, corporate, and additional community-based funding organizations.  

Management of Grants and Contracts

  • Work collaboratively with the development team to manage and maintain relationships with external organizational grants management teams and stakeholders through formal communication and stewardship. 
  • Implement a comprehensive and standardized system of timely reminders and processes for grant reporting deadlines, and reapplication.
  • Provide timely communication with internal departments to ensure deadlines and requirements are met. 
  • Supervise the maintenance and organization of all documentation and files pertaining to grants. 
  • Collaborate with the development and finance teams to produce outcome measurements,financial reports of grants, and supporting documents. 
  • Act as a liaison between ILC+REC and funding organizations related to inquiries on grant process requirements related to external database navigation.  
  • Analyze and track grant funding trends to identify opportunities for increased funding and growing programs in need of greater development.  
  • Research and develop systems for reporting on grant performance and assessing project impact. 
  • Ensure compliance with funding guidelines and regulations is followed throughout the grant application and execution process in coordination with appropriate internal teams. 
  • Maintain highest confidentiality with regard to agency information and financial documents. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public relations, public or business administration, marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience and demonstrated ability to coordinate and track grant activities, collect information, and create reports on progress, outcomes, and financial expenditures. 
  • Commitment to ILC+REC mission and values in serving immigrants/refugees/newcomers.  
  • Deep understanding of and ability to work sensitively and well with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religions, gender identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.    
  • Exhibits responsibility through good attendance, effective time management, dependability, self-discipline, flexibility, and working independently.
  • Strong analytical, research, editing, and persuasive writing skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a clear manner. 
  • Experience working with grants management databases (ex. Virtuous, etc.) is preferred. 
  • Fluency in using Office 365 applications (ex. Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.) and a strong ability to learn new software is required.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while maintaining high quality work.
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible and creative in a changing environment.
  • Openly supports departmental and organizational changes and demonstrates comfort working in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This job consists of regularly sitting at a desk and using a computer.
  • Workdays pertain to a Monday – Friday schedule, with no weekends required unless otherwise specified.

COMPENSATION

  • Annual base salary of $55,000 – 65,000, commensurate with experience.
