JOB DESCRIPTION:
Graduate Nurses promote residents' health, wellness, and illness prevention through daily nursing and personal care endeavors. A Graduate Nurse works under the direction of a registered nurse and must be ready to handle a diverse range of tasks and responsibilities, including administering treatment or medications, performing clinical procedures, and documenting the clinical data of patients. The basic job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for the care and safety of all patients/residents on the nursing unit, ensuring that individual care plans are current, implemented and revised as necessary
2. Administers and documents medications, treatments, and other nursing services to ensure that the medical record reflects progress and the current condition of the patient/resident
3. Ensures that the medical record reflects progress and the current condition of the resident at all times
4. Receives report from the off going team leader/nursing supervisor, makes rounds to verify the needs of the residents
5. Ensures that the designated representative is notified of any change in the patient/resident's condition or plan of care
6. Ensures that the physician is informed of any change in the patient/resident's condition, abnormal lab results, diagnostic test results, consultant recommendations, etc.
7. Reports pertinent information regarding patients/residents to the oncoming team leader/nursing supervisor
8. Possesses knowledge of the facility’s policies and procedures, abides by these policies, ensures that the staff is informed of and correctly carries out these policies
9. Maintains HIPAA privacy, security, and confidentiality standards
10. Follows universal precautions and infection control techniques

REQUIREMENTS:

1. NYS Graduate Nurse Diploma (Required)
2. A graduate nurse currently eligible for licensing in the State of New York who possesses an appropriate level of education, training, and experience to fulfill all requirements/duties of the position
3. No findings or convictions of resident abuse, mistreatment, and misappropriation of property
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions
5. Able to work well with and show respect towards fellow staff members, physicians, residents, and family members
6. Caring and compassionate bedside manner
7. Physical endurance for frequent activity; ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
