Pay Range
$54,000.00-$75,800.00 Annual
This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
As a CFD Process Research Engineer Intern at our Technical Center in Littleton, CO, you will work side by side with other engineering professionals and leadership by participating in hands on activities.
Your Day to Day Project Assignments:
There are many different types of projects that new employees might be assigned to which help them develop new skills and become familiar with Johns Manville operations and research. Here is a sampling:
  • CFD modeling
    • Explore energy and structure of current processes/components
    • Explore best practices (mesh studies, turbulence investigations, etc.)
  • Process and numerical data analysis
    • Work on analyzing data of the 3D fields in the fiberization regions using Python
    • Build PyFluent scripts for automating data analysis from fiberization models.
  • Support Pilot Scale Trials
    • Support experiments and data analysis
    • Build single fiber CFD model
  • Build Python script and transfer fiber forming model from gPROMS.
  • Operational algorithm development
    • Link together multiple reactor sub-models in Cantera for more control/new approach
    • Linking CFD and process control
  • Small scale physics analysis
    • Build fiber models for heat transfer analysis and optimize fiber diameter distributions for improved product performance.
    • Coupled with Ansys Fluent
  • May be required to performed other related duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Team:
  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D or end of Masters if Science in Mechanical, Chemical or Aerospace discipline
  • Ideal skills:
    • CFD modeling with Ansys Fluent
    • Experience modeling reacting flows/combustion.
    • Coding in Python
    • Exposure to industrial processes and process improvement initiatives
  • Strong working knowledge of a specialized technical discipline
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to modify standard principles to develop alternative courses of action.
  • Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Basic project management skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of statistics and specifically designed experiments.
  • Solid analytical and quality improvement ability
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Minimal travel required (0 - 11 days per year)
  • Work environment is typical of a research and development laboratory. When at an agency location or plant, may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds

**May be long term internship 6-12 months.
