POSITION SUMMARY:
The Laborer/Groundskeeper, under the responsibility of the Construction Manager, is responsible for the lawn care and snow removal on tribal housing sites and office buildings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Maintains driveways, walkways, roofs, doorways, gates and handicap ramps in the summer and winter - snow removal and lawn care.
- Performs routine, non-machine tasks; pick up papers, trimming bushes, rake leaves.
- Spreads and levels dirt, gravel using pick and shovel.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
CONTACTS:
Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and with frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include frequent sitting, use of hearing, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, driving; occasional standing, walking, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, smelling and bending. Working conditions include frequent exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, vibration and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and equipment and occasional contact with housing residents.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Two years of experience operating snow plow vehicles and law care equipment preferred.
Certification/License: Must have chauffeurs license. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions. Must be able to interpret and follow OSHA safety rules. Must be able to maintain and operate lawn mowers, snow plow trucks, weed whips. Must be able to drive a truck and pull a trailer. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision. Must be available for work weekends, holidays, and nights and on call during winter season. Must have chauffeurs license. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Native American preferred.
