Expected Hours
Typically, 8 am- 5 pm on weekdays, 6:30 am on committee meeting days during the legislative session. Schedule will vary as needed for events and meetings.
JOB PURPOSE
This position is responsible for providing support for the Government Affairs team and policy related committees, including research, committee meeting coordination, event planning, and other administrative duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Manage event logistics for policy-related events including monthly member meetings, Legislative Policy Committee and C3 committees, including venue and speaker selection, catering, AV setup, agendas, meeting invitations and registration.
- Record policy positions during the legislative session in State Bill or similar tracking software. Compile end-of-session report.
- Research policy topics and assist with the creation of written materials including testimony, newsletters, talking points, web pages, and issue briefs.
- Keep committee rosters in database updated, with special attention to membership levels and representative contact information.
- Monitor spending according to budget on department event, committees and other department expenditures, prepare department POs for signature and payment.
- Schedule and coordinate Government Affairs team workflow check-ins that occur weekly and monthly.
- Utilization of multiple technology platforms.
- Manage other projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- BA/BS degree in political science, public administration, communications, or related field is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in local, state, or federal government is preferred.
Skills:
- Must be very versatile, flexible, and able to manage numerous constantly changing issue environments.
- Strong multi-tasker with ability to plan, prioritize, organize and accomplish responsibilities.
- Excellent time management and follow-up skills.
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- Must show strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- High degree of professionalism, confidentiality and ability to contribute positively to a strong team environment.
- Must project a positive and professional image to Chamber members.
