Description

Goals and Objectives

The primary objective of the Retail Merchandiser is to provide exceptional customer service and communication with members, guests and team members.  This position is responsible for sourcing and purchasing quality, high end merchandise across a variety of product categories including spa products, fashion apparel and accessories, golf, athleisure, logo apparel and accessories for men, women and children, gift, home, and more for both the Golf Shop retail outlet, the Spa Boutique, and Swag for marketing, events and tournaments.  The Retail Merchandiser also serves as a liaison between the Director of Retail and on-site operation by developing a rapport with customers and monitoring sell-through to better understand the retail needs of the property and collaborate on buys. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing:

  • Utilize the open to buy system, Management One, to properly manage retail inventory and purchasing.
  • Execute and oversee purchases including vendor communications, new account setup, logo instructions, purchase orders and order tracking.
  • Complete purchases and update all business model components accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Director of Retail on custom product development and ensure all branding guidelines are adhered to for retail and marketing swag.
  • Monitor and manage the receipt flow of PO’s through On-Order maintenance and regular status updates.
  • Work closely with accounting to develop and maintain proper SOPs for processing invoices, inventory control and AP reconciliation.
  • Attend all required trade shows.
  • Assist with sourcing and purchasing of staff uniforms, event swag and other miscellaneous projects as requested.
  • Update and maintain all vendor contact information.

 

Inventory Control:

  • Conduct monthly physical inventories in the Golf Shop and Spa Boutique, and as needed for swag. 
  • Maintain shrink parameters for retail and swag inventory.
  • Monitor the sell through of best sellers and core items.  Fill in as needed to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Responsible for receiving retail merchandise in the POS system in adherence to company standards and guidelines pertaining to category and SKU assignment, pricing and descriptions.
  • Enforce policies for employee purchases.
  • Work with accounting department to reconcile all receipts and outstanding issues.

 

Selling/Merchandising:

  • Ensure the Golf Shop and Spa Boutique are always pristinely merchandised with frequent floor rotations and new products placed on the floor in a timely manner according to Buying Plan timelines and any special events or VIPs on property. 
  • Monitor and drive sales to meet monthly revenue budgets through building member relationships and maintaining knowledge of brands in the store and current fashion trends.
  • Incorporate trunk shows, demo days and other promotions to expand the retail offering for members and increase revenues.
  • Assist and service members and their guests with all retail purchases, returns and special orders, ensuring proper procedures are followed for all transactions including markdowns and employee discounts.
  • Ensure company packaging standards are upheld and implement special touches like gift wrapping and thank-you notes.
  • Maintain a member database with retail specific information for personal buying such as brand preferences and sizes.

 

Training/Staff Development:

  • Develop and implement retail SOP’s unique to the club operation and logistics using DLC standards as a baseline.
  • Recruit and train retail staff.
  • Oversee scheduling of all retail staff across both Golf Shop and Spa Boutique outlets
  • Provide continuous product knowledge and customer service training.
  • Develop and implement staff incentives for quality work and meeting sales parameters.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Retail Operations Manager to identify and develop Managers in Training.

 

Other:

  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by Director of Golf/Head Professional
  • Assist golf staff with various projects and tournament preparation.
  • Assist Spa Director with various projects, trunk shows, events, etc.
