Position Description
DEPARTMENT: Golf Course Operations
TITLE: Golf Course Ranger
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Golf Course Ranger shall be responsible for regulating the pace of play, educating players on golf course rules and regulations and enforcing those rules, monitoring course conditions, and providing outstanding customer service to our patrons.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Superintendent of Golf.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities listed below are illustrative only and not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all duties and responsibilities associated with this position.
1. Patrols the course to provide assistance to golfers, keeps play running smoothly, and prevents unauthorized use of the course.
2. Monitors and regulates the pace of play.
3. Knows and enforces golf rules and regulations.
4. Acts as a liaison between players and management, communicating any feedback and/or complaints from the golfers to the Superintendent of Golf.
5. Provides outstanding customer service by displaying a friendly, helpful, and professional attitude at all times.
6. Maintains the course by picking up litter, emptying garbage when needed, and making sure that supplies, such as flags, water coolers, and rakes, are placed around the golf course.
7. Assists in outing and event preparations such as placing hole signage, tents, and proximity markers on the golf course.
8. Reports any hazards on the course and work to provide a safe environment for both golfers and staff.
9. Provide routine first aid assistance to injured players, when possible. Ensure first aid kit on Ranger cart is stocked.
10. Performs all tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program.
11. Other duties as assigned.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
1. Keep the Ranger golf cart clean and free from clutter.
2. Assist cart attendants and clubhouse staff as needed.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and Experience: None.
2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Knowledge of the game of golf, its rules/regulations, and golf etiquette.
B. Knowledge of the layout of Park District golf courses.
C. Ability to work as a team player and assist with golf course operations as assigned.
D. Excellent customer service and communication skills.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to drive a golf cart.
2. Valid Illinois driver's license.
3. Must have or obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
4. Requires weekend and holiday hours.

The employee frequently is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, and controls. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. by themselves or 80 lbs. with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by 3 this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works at a golf course around people playing golf and employees maintaining the golf course with mechanical equipment. The employee will work outside in varying weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme hot and humid conditions along with rain and inclement weather. The employee will work around mowing, lawn equipment, maintenance carts, trucks, and construction equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to fertilizers and pesticides used in the operation of a golf course. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
