Summary
Under the general supervision and direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or Golf Course Mechanic, performs skilled and semi-skilled work and manual labor in the maintenance and care of the golf course.
Position Description and Job Functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Receives oral or written work orders from Supervisor who reviews work in progress.
• Operates hand mowers and riding mowers to cut greens, fairways, and rough areas.
• Rakes sand traps and trims around traps and greens.
• Poles and syringes greens, and helps with topdressing.
• Performs manual labor in the removal or planting of trees, or any debris on the course.
• Paints buildings and facilities as needed.
• Performs routine tasks such as cleaning waste baskets, filling ball washers and water buckets, and moving tee markers.
• Services equipment with fuel, lubricants and accessories.
• Sees that all equipment is cleaned and returned to the proper location after use.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• May perform additional tasks and duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to acquire skills to operate equipment.
• Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with other employees, department officials and the general public.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to quickly learn assigned semi-skilled tasks on the job.
• Ability to recognize and locate conditions which require repair and maintenance work.
Conditions and Qualifications
REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
• Ability to sit/ stand/ remain continuously for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to perform gross body coordination and perform tasks that require hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to hear normal sounds with some background noises to communicate effectively.
• Ability to attend to task/ function for more than 60 minutes at a time.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work in setting subject to background noises.
• Ability to get in and out of an automobile.
• Ability to frequently lift and/ or carry objects weighing from 25 to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat or cold, with temperatures sufficiently high or low to cause marked bodily discomfort.
• Sufficient stamina and good health to perform strenuous physical labor.
• Ability to move throughout Town buildings and sites.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a high school or technical school education.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
