General Summary
Help support Parks and Recreation in their mission to enhance the quality of life for all through the stewardship of public land and parks and to provide quality recreational experiences. The hiring amount for this position is $18.50 an hour. This is a non-exempt, temporary (variable/limited-hour) position, and is not eligible for city benefits.
This position performs in a responsible facility operations role at Meadowcreek Golf Course; providing technical and customer service support of routine golf course and clubhouse operations including organizing play by individuals, leagues and tournaments. Performs related tasks as required. Primarily and most frequently this position serves in the clubhouse as lead on-site personnel or Manager on Duty under general direction. May supervise temporary or volunteer staff. Reports to a Parks and Recreation Operations or Management Specialist.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serves as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Facility Manager or Assistant Manager;
  • Makes tee time reservations using Department's systems and software;
  • Enforces established City and department rules and policies and rules of golf etiquette;
  • Responds to and resolves customer inquiries and complaints;
  • Opens, closes and secures clubhouse;
  • Verifies register opening and close-out;
  • Regularly monitors the practice facilities, including driving range, practice greens and support amenities, moves ropes, bag stands and picks up empty baskets;
  • Initiates play throughout the golf course by managing the tee sheet;
  • Ensures golf course is properly marked;
  • Makes written reports of property damage or accidents on course;
  • Cleans and maintains the clubhouse, including patio, bag drop, walks and surrounding areas;
  • Ensures golf carts and related equipment are cleaned, accounted for, and secured daily;
  • Refills water coolers throughout the facility with water and ice;
  • Assists with inventory control, merchandise displays, cleaning and dusting periodically;
  • Acts as starter-ranger when assigned;
  • Changes setting of tee markers on each tee when needed;
  • Performs related duties as required.

Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by employment start date;
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma;
  • Minimum of three (3) months of retail, point of sale operation and cash handling in a business environment.
    • (College/University course work in Recreation, Physical Education, Business Management, Finance, or Accounting may be substituted for up to three (3) months experience working in retail or in a golf-related field)
  • Must have valid Virginia driver's license by employment start date. (To view our driving eligibility requirements, visit );
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, mornings and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Golf industry experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of golf course operations; operations of a point of sale unit/cash register; ability to count money and make change accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and coworkers; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to learn and effectively use department's systems and software.

Physical requirements of this position: MEDIUM: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 30 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly to move objects.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, stand-by/on-call and/or weather-emergency on-call. This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.
Position may be subject to vibration, driving light equipment and/or moving mechanical parts.
A majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve acidic or harsh substances or fuels. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
There are no benefits for this position, as it is a temporary, substitute, seasonal or intern position, or the work schedule is less than 20 hours per week.
