Job Summary:

Systems Effectors: Processing, Guidance & Control Center is seeking a Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineering Fellow with technical leadership expertise in GNC algorithm development, system integration, and performance analysis. This role will develop an integrated GNC architecture to support weapon guidance and control development, leverage expertise in complex 6-DOF missile simulations, as well as drive the design and simulation of launch vehicles.  This role is recognized as a subject matter expert and is relied upon to advise program and engineering leadership teams in pursuit of organizational business objectives.

This position is located in Tucson, AZ and this position is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • As a GNC Engineering Fellow, you will apply knowledge of algorithm development in areas such as estimation, trajectory optimization, and missile interception.
  • You will support others in the development of technical solutions to complex GNC problems that require application of advanced technical principles involving multiple subsystem interactions.
  • You will guide the successful completion of GNC development and integration efforts in a technical leadership capacity
  • You will work independently, as well as mentor and support early career engineers, to uncover and resolve issues associated with development and implementation of weapon guidance and control system design.
  • You will collaborate across programs; representing our organization and trusted as a subject matter expert within the field of GNC
  • You will interact with senior leadership to plan and execute programs to accomplish long-range objectives, while also committing to help shape the strategic direction of technology to accomplish long-term objectives.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of twelve (12) years of prior relevant engineering experience OR an advanced degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of prior relevant engineering experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and testing GNC algorithms in the aerospace industry
  • At least eight (8) years of experience with systems engineering of DoD systems, including system-level requirements allocation, participation in design review or peer review, and presenting technical briefings.
  • Experience with C++ and Matlab
  • Authorship of intellectual property (patent disclosures) and/or conference/journal publications in applicable technical areas
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Twenty (20) years of experience in the development of missile defense architecture
  • Experience procuring research and development funding, both internal and external to the company
  • Experience with battlefield simulation and operations analysis
  • Experience with aerodynamics of glide weapons
  • System-level design experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines such as software, electrical, mechanical, and test engineering
  • Experience supporting proposal preparation to obtain new business contracts, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures, and cost estimation.
  • Experience in autonomous and collaborative systems or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
  • Committed to being a subject matter expert within the industry, with prior defense contractor businesses, and among the customer base
  • Authorship of intellectual property (patent disclosures) and/or conference/journal publications in applicable technical areas within the last five (5) years
  • DoD Top Secret clearance with current SSBI within last 5 years.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
  • Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
  • Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).  An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
