GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The General Manager has responsibility for the overall Research and Development of the Crystal Growth Group, helping transition R&D into production, and supporting Sales in their work with customers. This includes working to develop future business and leading R&D in development activities and new product release. This position requires international travel and management of 5-10 direct reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
4-year Engineering or Science degree, Advanced degree preferred.
Semiconductor experience a plus especially in the areas of crystal growth, wafer fabrication, and Gallium Nitride (GaN).
10 years recent experience in senior R&D leadership role.
15 years’ experience in Manufacturing, development or leading operations.
Intermediate level computer skills including Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to motivate and develop technical staff.
Eligible to work in an ITAR environment.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Ability to pass a background check.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Supervision, and direction of R&D operations including expatriates. Will coordinate succession planning, hiring, staffing plans, and labor cost control.
  2. Works with Sales to coordinate customer interaction and relationship management within product account base and as an escalation point for customers throughout the US. Trains others on customer management.
  3. Ensures team understands and executes customer first support.
  4. Works with Sales to generate new business inquiries, explore opportunities for Crystal technologies. Will serve as an expert trainer on R&D.
  5. Creates and presents PowerPoint presentations for Sr. Management meetings, and Monthly Review meetings, and supports Sales presentations when needed.
  6. Communicates with counterparts in Japan on a regular basis for technology (R&D and Engineering), business planning, and various kinds of technical confirmation, legal language discussion, & general management advisement.
  7. Conducts smart business travel, including approval of travel expenses and visits with international guests.
  8. Develops and oversees R&D facility for Crystal R&D Division ensuring that it achieves its monthly plans and technical milestones. This may include planning, supplier development, material oversight, safety, P5S, and location selection.
  9. Mentors and occasionally travels with less experienced engineers and managers.
  10. Effectively manages relationships with Kyocera Top Management.
  11. This position works closely with the GM of Crystal Operations and operations team to ensure all new business development opportunities are explored and grown.
  12. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
