The Role

The Global Head of Engineering is responsible for the efficient effective leadership and management of the Engineering Services Group within Fidelity Real Estate. The Group manages engineering and is responsible for delivering 100% uptime of our data centers and facilities by leading a team of operating and design engineers responsible for the day-to-day operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for all owned and leased properties! The Engineering Services team plays a key role in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operations of all MEP systems. This leader will manage Fidelity associates as well as multiple 3rd party vendors. This key leadership role will collaborate with partners across the entire organization to ensure consistent superior customer service. This role requires an excellent balance of transactional management and transformational vision. This professional will champion continuous improvement initiatives and process consistency, while ensuring organizational alignment of charter and objectives.

The Expertise You Have

  • 15+ years of leadership experience with technical office and mission-critical facilities MEP Engineering & Operations.

  • Knowledge of Data Center Industry Standards, Best Practices and Uptime Tier Levels.

  • Experience managing MEP infrastructure design, testing, commissioning; and acceptance of complex new facilities.

  • Experience developing cost effective standards, guidelines, and processes to maintain 100% uptime in mission critical facilities.

  • Experience managing engineering service delivery through in-house staff as well as third party outsourced service providers.

  • Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve energy efficiency and uptime.

  • Data Center certifications such as CDCPM, CDCEP, CDCDP a plus.

  • Ability to concisely present technical concepts to non-technical audience.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to prepare business cases and budgets.

  • Proven track record of developing life-cycle strategies for engineering systems in a thoughtful manner.

  • Excellent vendor and contract management skills to ensure fast response and cost control.

  • Ability to work productively in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines.

  • Ensure that all activities necessary to maintain 100% uptime are implemented as required, while ensuring health & safety, security, and compliance.

  • Proactively support the IT client needs in a flexible and timely manner. Work collaboratively with multi-functional teams to implement strategies that support the company's vision.

  • Respond to and provide technical support to resolve abnormal operational incidents and determine root causes of failure.

  • Track and publish data on downtime-causing incidents or near-misses. Develop, communicate, and implement strategies to prevent recurrence of failures. Collaborate with other sites to share lessons learned.

  • Act as the primary contact for auditors and regulators; ensure 100% compliance with all internal and external audit requirements.

  • Develop operating budget and capital plan within enterprise constraints. Anticipate future needs for technology and equipment replacement to develop a thoughtful and cost-effective strategy.

  • Provide program management support for national/global initiatives as assigned. Ensure consistency in design and implementation across the portfolio.

  • Develop business cases for asset preservation and energy upgrades.

  • Develop and mentor team members to achieve professional growth. Identify training and development needs, possible career paths for mobility and encourage continuous learning.

  • Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team, exploring new technologies and approaches to enhance project efficiency and outcomes.

  • Find opportunities for process improvement and implement standard methodologies across the organization.

Project Leadership and Coordination

  • Collaborate with partners, architects, engineers, and clients to develop appropriate project requirements and objectives.

  • Manage the development of comprehensive MEP project plans, schedules, and budgets for seamless execution.

  • Coordinate effectively with other engineering subject areas and project teams to integrate MEP systems flawlessly with the building's design.

  • Assess, review, and prepare MEP design proposals, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with codes and industry standards.

  • Supervise and lead MEP staff during construction, ensuring alignment to approved plans, safety guidelines, and specifications.

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, proactively identify issues, and implement corrective actions promptly.

  • Expertly resolve any MEP-related conflicts or discrepancies that may arise during construction.

  • Ensure a rigorous quality control program.

  • Stay current with relevant engineering codes, regulations, and industry methodologies, ensuring full compliance in all company projects.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and support the process to obtain necessary permits and approvals for engineering projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Critical Thinking, Effective Communication and Execution.

  • Proven Leadership capability with a track record of influencing executives and senior management.

  • Exceptional skills with problem solving, efficiency and project management.

  • Leadership experience managing others; ability to coalesce multi-functional teams.

  • Collaboration skills with multiple teams and work styles.

  • Bachelor's degree required in a core subject area such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related profession. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience leading and managing international teams is strongly preferred.
