Form of workWe are looking for another Head Coach to join our Gliders Track & Field team this Spring and Summer! Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Head Coaches mentor, coach and supervise assistant coaches and volunteers within the Gliders Track & Field programs. Our Head Coaches will motivate participants, K-8th grade in Track & Field, cross-country, as well as other physical fitness drills and activities. Applicant will be responsible for coordination, set-up, and clean-up for practices, as well as meets. Enthusiasm for running and a passion for teaching kids is essential. Our athletes will run at local Issaquah School District tracks, as well as city park trails, sidewalks, and fields. We need another energetic, responsible, and reliable point person to lead by example.
The Spring Track & Field season will run Monday, April 22 - May 23 and the Summer Track & Field season will run June 3 - July 11. Practices are an hour long and will take place Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, with some track meets on Thursdays. Staff shifts will run 6:00 - 7:30 PM. The Head Coach is also required to meet with the Gliders Leadership Team and help lesson plan prior to the season starting. The position is open to individuals ages 18 years and older.
- Act both as a running coach and running partner for both Track and Field and Cross-Country programs.
- Run with participants on tracks, trails, sidewalks, and City Park tails.
- Coordinate, set up, and clean up at track and cross-country meets.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to gain certification.
- Track and field, cross country, or other running experience.
- Attendance at practices and events required.
- Experience with Gliders program preferred.
- Volunteer or paid coaching experience preferred.
- Familiarity with schools and trails in Issaquah and Sammamish preferred.
- Ability to pass a driver's abstract and city van training (if necessary)
- Qualified applicants over 18 years of age must pass a criminal background screen.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a group.
- Ability to interact with and motivate children.
- Ability to supervise and mentor staff.
- Ability to come up with Track & Field lesson plans for up to 5-8 weeks.
- Ability to travel to away meets.
