Job Summary:
The GIS Technician I is an entry-level position in the GIS department, responsible for supporting GIS data collection, analysis, and mapping activities. This role involves assisting with data entry, mapping, and the maintenance of geographic databases to support various GIS projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Entry and Management:
- Assist in the collection, input, and validation of spatial and attribute data into GIS databases.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of GIS data by following established standards and protocols.
- Mapping and Cartography:
- Create basic maps and cartographic products using GIS software, ensuring that map content and design meet project requirements.
- Assist in the production of digital and printed maps for various purposes.
- Data Analysis:
- Conduct basic spatial analysis and queries on GIS data to support decision-making and project requirements.
- Assist in generating reports and visualizations based on analyzed data.
- Data Integration:
- Collaborate with other departments to acquire, integrate, and manage GIS data from various sources.
- Ensure data consistency and compatibility with existing databases.
- Quality Control:
- Participate in data quality control and validation processes to identify and resolve data discrepancies and errors.
- Verify data accuracy and reliability.
- Documentation:
- Maintain documentation for GIS datasets, procedures, and workflows.
- Assist in developing and updating standard operating procedures.
- Technical Support:
- Provide basic technical support to GIS users, assisting with data retrieval and software use.
- Troubleshoot minor GIS software and hardware issues.
- Collaboration:

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
- Basic knowledge of GIS principles, spatial analysis, and data management.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Adaptability and a willingness to learn and develop GIS expertise.
