We are currently seeking a GIS Specialist to support energy-related projects in the Western US, including routing and siting for electric transmission and substation projects, solar arrays, and battery storage projects.

 

The GIS Specialist will oversee and execute all aspects of GIS and geospatial technologies necessary to support the identification, assessment, and permitting of sites for renewable energy and transmission facilities. Project tasks will include, but not be limited to, working in ArcGIS to evaluate and document potential impacts to natural resources in support of state and federal environmental analyses, providing data analytics and mapping support for siting studies/critical issues analyses, and acquiring and evaluating geospatial data for permitting/regulatory compliance efforts.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of and experience with ESRI software and products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI data.

 

Responsibilities:

         Meet with internal and external clients to define data needs, project requirements, and required outputs needed for a project.

         Identify, collect, and create data at the appropriate scale, conduct spatial analyses, and create high-quality map products. Develop GIS projects consisting of vector, raster, and tabular data.

         Create routing evaluation models, evaluate data outputs, classify and rank routing segments, and prepare opportunities and constraints analyses for transmission routes and alternatives.

         Conduct spatial analysis to provide data and statistics for environmental permit applications, critical issues analyses, and impact assessments.

         Promote cross-functional collaboration among environmental, engineering, project management, and finance/operations groups.

         Complete assignments quickly and accurately following detailed instructions, working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

         Develop high-quality cartographic work products such as online data viewers, stand-alone maps, and map graphics as part of page layouts and public outreach materials.

         Represent clients before federal, state, and local regulatory and land management agencies, boards, planning commissions, and councils.

 

Requirements:

         Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.

         Experience performing GIS-based routing and siting evaluations for renewable energy and/or transmission projects.

         Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

         The ability to handle multiple tasks, coordinate effectively with others, and work independently within a team are important characteristics for this position.

         Must be able to research and interpret federal, state, and local datasets on a project-specific basis to identify appropriate data for inclusion and analysis.

         Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.

         Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

         A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

         Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

         Experience using GPS field units and incorporating field-collected data into analyses and reports.

         Experience developing web-based interactive GIS databases for client viewing and use.

         Experience developing web-based interactive public outreach websites.

         Python or related programming experience is a plus.
