GIS Specialist Job Description and Responsibilities:
The GIS Specialist is a full-time position reporting to the GIS Department Head and is responsible for the daily management of 1-4 projects depending upon their size and complexity. Currently our projects consist of public utility mapping and analysis (Water distribution, Sanitary, and Storm sewer) along with environmental monitoring and restoration, transportation planning and a variety of private sector clients.
The GIS Specialist would be responsible for some, or all, of the following:
- Geodatabase design and development,
- Data creation and management using a variety of paper and electronic sources,
- Analysis of data using Esri geoprocessing tools, Model Builder, and statistical tools,
- Developing and implementing quality control procedures, metadata and project documentation,
- Cartographic skills for map production in hard copy, electronic and online formats,
- Coordination with field staff performing GPS and mobile field data collection and inspections,
- Coordinating with the rest of the GIS Department, HRC engineering staff and the client.
Desired Qualifications -
- Strong written and verbal communications skills and being an interactive team member are
- Experienced in Esri ArcGIS desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and mobile software.
- Experienced in reading CAD and engineering plans and translating to the GIS environment.
- Experience with programming/scripting languages such as SQL, Python, HTML5.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related degree.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software.
