Job Overview: The GIS Analyst role is to leverage location intelligence to assist in empowering the division to meet its core mission. The GIS Analyst is responsible for management and utilization of Water Resource Division's geospatial data assets, data resources, web and mobile applications. Duties include data management oversight, web/mobile application configuration and development, technical consulting, employee training and empowerment, data analysis, cross-division and cross-agency collaboration, and external contractor oversight. The GIS Analyst serves as an interface between functional users and technical resources, ensuring GIS architecture, application design, and management are aligned with business requirements while providing robust, scalable, efficient, and coordinated services that comply with state and agency policies.
This role will have the opportunity to plan and fly UAV missions with various sensors including Lidar, Thermal, and Earth Observation, and will assist in management of captured imagery and its derivatives. Additionally, the employee will take an active role with MT DNRC IT GIS staff and Technical Project Services to aid in the design, implementation, and maintenance of an Esri Enterprise GIS Architecture for Water Resources Division (WRD). WRD workgroups include Water Sciences & Data, Dam Safety, Floodplains, Water Planning Implementation, & Communications, and Compact Implementations, amongst others. Countless opportunities exist for geospatial analysis, workflow and analysis automation, and GIS application development to support the WRD. Field data collection workflow applications, both crowd-sourced and designed for DNRC WRD staff are also on the horizon using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123. Recently developed and continuously improved applications include the Water Right Query System, StAGE Application, and Montana Dam Failure Summary. WRD utilizes the entire Esri ArcGIS Online app stack and ArcGIS Pro/ArcGIS Desktop extensions.
