Job Description
In support of the project collaborating on the National Map USGS has a requirement for an ambitious and talented GIS Documentation Specialist who understands responsibility and work ethic and is consistently seeking to learn and improve their GIS skillset. The Dynamic Mapping Initiative is a current project to extensively enhance the capability of existing USGS Published Maps Products and Services (PMPS) by providing cloud infrastructure, software, tools, geospatial data and products available to the benefit of the USGS, its partners, and the public. As a documentation and testing specialist you would be a crucial player in this arena, applying your knowledge of Geospatial Information Systems to enhance map generation, build data management strategies, recommend algorithms to define documentation and create map manipulation, as well as documenting map generation requirements for resourcing data layers while in addition staying flexible and growing new skills as the position demands.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust Clearance (U.S. Citizen or permanent resident of at least 3 years)
- Bachelor's degree or Associates degree and 2 years experience
- Ability to perform database and data operations typically required to support a large geospatial database
- Proficiency utilizing Python needed for coding and code regression testing
- Ability to leverage ArcGIS Pro to assist with testing capabilities and data migration
- Expertise with ESRI SDE Framework, ArcGIS
- Knowledge of Python Scripts, Perl, ESRI Geoprocessing Tools, and ESRI Geodatabase Technology
- Experience with one of the following: Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server RDBMS Framework
- Experience testing applications
- Experience developing specifications documentation for products and data
