The Pierce County Summer internship program is back! Our program will run from 6/10/2024 through 8/30/2024. We are excited to offer opportunities that provide realistic and meaningful work experiences while providing Pierce County Departments, the Council, and Courts with interns who bring fresh perspectives and assistance to complete special projects. Interns also get an opportunity to be a part of a cohort of interns who will attend weekly activities together. These sessions include professional development classes, collaboration with other interns, and tours of various departments and facilities where you will learn about the County and the types of great job opportunities we offer. As a cohort, you will be responsible for a culminating group project/presentation to the Pierce County Council.

How to be Successful in the Role:

As an intern in a field that is rapidly changing and growing, you will need to be curious, enjoy learning, excel on collaboration across teams. You will also need to thrive at working both in the office and in the field. You should come to the role with experience in GIS, data analysis, and or infrastructure Asset Management; the department will provide other required training. Your ability to learn quickly and communicate well will guide your success over the summer.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

Participate in the department's infrastructure Asset Management programs by:

  • Assisting teams that perform Asset Management planning, asset acquisition and capitalization, asset inventory, data usage and system administration, asset preservation, condition assessment, and cost data analysis.

  • Assist with data cleanup projects and analysis projects.

  • May participate in drone inspections and exposure to drone usage for operations.

  • Participate in basic field-based data collection, mapping, assistance in mobile solutions development and implementation, assistance in AGO (ArcGISOnline) development, and post processing of GIS data.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be local 6/10/2024 - 8/30/2024 to attend in-person cohort meetings, activities, and any work-related tasks

  • Currently studying, or experience in: GIS, data analysis, or infrastructure Asset Management
