GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 

Under the executive direction of the Director of Gifted the Gifted and Talented Educational Specialist position is responsible for providing direction, time, encouragement and resources to gifted and talented students to maximize their potential. The Gifted specialist will collaborate with teachers to plan and implement differentiated, enriched instruction for students requiring gifted and talented services. The specialist will have decision-making power to address day-to-day academic and operational school issues and will be responsible for ensuring the district's mission and goals are achieved. Collaboration with multiple departments to ensure consistency of practice and use of resources will be essential as this position works continuously to improve the skills and knowledge base of elementary school administrators. Under the supervision of the building principal, the employee performs most work independently and performance is evaluated by results. Performs related work as directed.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coaches and supports administrators in goal setting, planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of action plans that will guide school leaders in meeting their instructional leadership objectives and for their schools to meet performance targets
  • Coordinates cross-content integrated opportunities for an instructional program that may include reading, writing, math, science, social studies, visual/performing arts, STEAM, service learning, and/or instructional
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and recommends revisions and improvements as
  • Coordinates curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and
  • Visits classrooms on a regular basis to ensure consistency of what is
  • Indirectly supervises and coaches teachers and may assist school principals in evaluating
  • Performs formal classroom observations and assists teachers in the improvement of instructional
  • Provides guidance in the selection of textbooks and other teaching materials and equipment for the
  • Serves as a resource and advisor to administrators and teachers regarding advanced instructional .
  • Assists teachers in the improvement of instructional delivery and performance through active coaching, feedback, and job-embedded professional
  • Assists in developing and conducting division-wide staff development for the schools instructional
  • Provides feedback on successful leadership practices, such as effective management of instructional staff, use of data, and establishment of school
  • Attends school-based meetings and events to foster a culture of engagement with staff, families, and
  • Builds the instructional leadership capacity of principals with particular focus on instruction, data analysis, aligned interventions, community, and
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons to maintain a current knowledge of developments and research in the
  • Provides small group instruction and services for identified gifted
  • Facilitates the summer enrichment program for gifted, high-achieving, and talented
  • Collaborates with Governor's schools, and college enrichment programs representatives to support the learning process of gifted, talented, and high achieving students
  • Performs other related duties as
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge / Skills I Abilities

  • Must possess extensive experience in the field of public education to include classroom experience and supervisory/administrative experience of instructional programs in public
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and current issues in the provision of public education programs and
  • Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of state/federal regulations and accreditation requirements governing public education
  • Must possess excellent leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, and communication
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, paraprofessionals, school administrative staff, parents, guardians, the community, and central office administrative
  • Must possess excellent leadership, management, and communication
  • Must possess experience supervising and providing performance feedback to professional staff, managing budgets, and developing and interpreting student population projections and teacher
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills are
  • Must possess the ability to speak effectively before large groups and high-level
  • Must possess budget planning
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to support division goals and programs through instructional initiatives within budgetary
  • Must possess excellent leadership, management, and communication
  • Must possess skill in preparing documents and composing fiscal letters and
  • Must possess skill in working with considerable independence to carry out tasks to
  • Must possess skill in performing duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain
  • Must possess ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and
  • Must possess the ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of recent developments, current literature and informational resources in the field of personnel
  • Must possess expert knowledge of basic school district work policies and guidelines; expert knowledge of departmental practices and

Education / Certifications / Experience

Must hold a bachelor's degree or higher in Elementary Education or a related field, with a licensure endorsement in Gifted Education; Must possess an advanced degree in Educational Administration and Supervision and hold or be eligible for an endorsement in Administration and Supervision; Supplemented by eight (8) to ten (10) years progressively responsible instruction/supervisory/management experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
