Job Summary

Description
ConocoPhillips is recruiting for a Geomechanicist, reporting to the Reservoir Characterization Manager in the Global Technical Functions – Geosciences organization. If you are selected as the Geomechanicist, you will provide geomechanics expertise to ConocoPhillips assets globally.
The candidate is expected to be able to interpret field, laboratory or log data to implement, validate, and calibrate appropriate methods to solve geomechanics related problems. You will also be expected to apply geomechanical expertise to fault/fracture characterization and stability analysis, wellbore stability analysis, unconventional geomechanics, subsurface containment assurance, and data acquisition and management.
Additionally, you will help to design and execute future Technology Development programs including participation in selected Joint Industry Projects (JIPs). Attending peer reviews and mentoring junior staff is also a part of the responsibilities.
The candidate must be comfortable working as an individual contributor, as a member of a multi-discipline team and often managing priorities for multiple clients/BUs.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Conduct detailed geomechanical studies integrating all available data to support specific projects
  • Construct 1D and 3D geomechanical models and execute coupled reservoir-geomechanical simulations in service of specific studies
  • Conduct natural fracture characterization using logs and cores
  • Advise on data acquisition plans based on needs of the project
  • Lead joint industry projects and extensive knowledge sharing internally and externally
  • Participate in peer assists and reviews in support of geomechanical analysis
  • Establish relationships with other geomechanicists around the globe
  • Work closely with geoscience, reservoir engineering & drilling in the Global Technical Functions organization
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs
  • Occasional travel to BU offices to support critical reservoir geomechanics-related study

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Master’s degree or higher in Geoscience, Engineering, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in the upstream oil & gas industry
  • 5+ years of experience in applying geomechanics
  • 3+ years of experience with wellbore stability modeling

Preferred:

  • PhD in Geoscience, Engineering, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience with subsurface containment assurance
  • 3+ years of experience with geomechanics workflows and simulation
  • 3+ years of experience with SLB tool suite for geomechanics (Petrel, ILX, Visage, Techlog)
  • 1+ years of experience with fracture characterization and fault/fracture stability analysis
  • Direct experience with geomechanics workflows and simulation
  • Experience building and maintaining geomechanical datasets
  • Proficient in geomechanics software and tools
  • Proven track record for delivering results
  • Demonstrated knowledge-sharing and communication skills
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
