Geologist/Geologist Technician
A person applying for a geologist position is preferred to have a degree in Geology or Geoscience. They should also be comfortable with getting their hands dirty – literally – to collect samples and specimens from sites of interest. Other important geologist skills include an aptitude in data analysis and research, as well as savviness in using technological tools, both software and technological tools.
Job Brief
We are looking for a geologist to analyze geological data and plan our geology-related projects.
In this job, you’ll get to visit sites of interest to study the earth and work on mineral extraction and mining procedures. This means you’ll need excellent organizational and project management skills. You should be comfortable with data and geologic modeling, as well as technological tools. Teamwork and communication skills are also important with engineers, geophysicists or other scientists.

Responsibilities
- Plan geology projects (e.g. mine plans, overburden calculations, etc.) and field sampling events
- Survey sites and create logs (e.g. boreholes) and maps using GIS
- Gather and analyze geological data
- Coordinate reserve study programs
- Examine the composition of sample specimens
- Coordinate the testing minerals for specific elements necessary for individual clients
- Write conclusive geological report findings
- Conduct quality control on the suitability of material (e.g. limestone for construction purposes) and inspect projects
- Study sites for developments, formations, hazards and composition
- Investigate and evaluate natural resource deposits (e.g. limestone, sandstone, coal, etc.)
- Consult on various geology-related issues like waste management, resource management, mineral extraction techniques and more
- Ensure environmental and other regulations are met in mining, construction, and production projects (e.g. quarry mining, coal mining, asphalt production, concrete production, etc.)
- Utilize data and reserve information to assist in developing mine plans for efficient extraction of minerals
Requirements
- Have a degree from and accredited university in Geology or Geoscience
- Hold a Registered Professional Geologist Certification (PG) or be eligible to apply for one, with the Geologist-In-Training Certification (GIT)
- Suggest at least 2 years proven experience as a geologist (PG or GIT)
- Be able to use and read both geological and topographical mapping information and apply the interpretations of the mapping to the projects being conducted
- Experience with various geological techniques like mining, boring and numerical modeling
- Experience using geology software (e.g. Carlson Geology, ArcGIS, Rockware) and other data and modeling tools (e.g. AutoCAD, GoCAD)
- Familiarity with environmental regulations
- Good knowledge of the attitudes of soil, minerals and other materials
- Ability to handle and analyze data and 3D models to develop reserve base
- An analytical mind

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
