Geography Intern - Archive Research

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is seeking qualified candidates for two Geography interns for approximately 6-12 months. This is a paid internship. SACOG is partnering with the Sacramento State Department of Geography to work on a geography-based history of the Sacramento region using a combination of research, literature review, and applied use of GIS tools. This intern will focus on Archive Research, while the GIS intern position will focus on using GIS tools.
Interns will work primarily on-campus at Sacramento State, with the option for some time working at SACOG's office in downtown Sacramento. Interns are also able to work some time remotely.
Hours are flexible and may be up to 10-20 hours during the school year and 40 hours per week in the summer depending on school schedule.

Examples of Typical Job Functions:

• Work alongside the Sacramento State Department of Geography and SACOG's Data & Analysis Team and fellow interns on background research and tool development
• Work on a literature review of racial disparities and population trends by geography in the Sacramento region
• Archival research on housing policies, redlining, and deed restrictions in local communities that historically excluded ownership and residence based on race

Desired Qualifications

• Enrolled at Sacramento State as a Geography Major or Minor, or Geographic Information Systems Minor
• Accuracy and strong attention to detail
