Job Summary:
The General Service Technician -A Class serves as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair, and who has previously worked as a General Service Technician - B Class.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Diagnose vehicles to determine the cause of any malfunction and perform repairs.
- Installs options equipment specified by the customer or the dealer.
- Inspects and test drives newly delivered vehicles for obvious damage and missing major components and drivability functions.
- Accurately and efficiently performs work outlined on repair order. Examines assigned vehicles to ensure proper function and communicates immediately with the service advisor if the work order needs to be revised or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time frame.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order, save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Sells lubrication, safety inspection, and other related services. Maintains related records on regular customers, following up periodically with telephone, mail, or personal reminders.
- Communicates with the parts department to obtain any needed parts.
- Road tests vehicles. Ensure customer vehicles are kept clean.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs and events. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understands and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OHSA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. Must be able to inspect vehicle to determine repairs needed.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
