Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY

Assist the Facilities Management department in fulfilling the mission of Southern

Nazarene University by performing General Maintenance and repairs on university

facilities and fixtures using skills related to the carpentry trade to provide safe, attractive,

and functional facilities, and provide support services needed to help foster an

environment conducive to quality living and learning. The GMT is responsible for

providing communication, inspection, and evaluation regarding interior and exterior

campus needs and services, and performing tasks as directed, to maintain SNU

facilities and fixtures. The GMT will maintain accurate records regarding repair,

replacement, and remodeling in and of university facilities. The GMT will fulfill service

requests related to office and furniture moves, event set up and tear down, flag maintenance, and

assisting Trades technicians in projects. The GMT will represent SNU to service

providers, customers, and vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Communicate with Director of Business Operations as it relates to projects, work orders, events, and departmental concerns.
  • Communicate with campus customers, including but not limited to faculty, staff, and students regarding work to be completed.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs building hardware, including but not limited to, doors, windows, floors and ceilings, and furniture, adhering to accepted procedures and techniques of the carpenter trade.
  • Inspect the work site to determine necessary repair, method of repair, and tools/supplies needed.
  • Work with Event Coordinators to support events by performing and overseeing event set ups/ tear downs.
  • Perform service requests from faculty and staff including furniture moves, office relocations, and storage of surplus items.
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.Ability to work independently and productively without constant supervision.
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • High School graduate.
  • Knowledge of and skilled in the performance of carpentry principles and the safe application to maintenance, installation, and repair.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience and/or relevant training.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast paced work environment.
  • Typing and spelling competency.
  • Knowledge of and skilled in the manufacture and installation of interior doors,
  • trim work, cabinetry, fixture work, and ceiling tiles/grids. Experience with various computer software applications
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools, and equipment.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions, including but not limited to bending
  • squatting, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting 50 pounds unassisted,
  • (200 pounds with others assisting), must be able to push, or pull heavy loads,
  • fixtures, or equipment.
  • Must be able to work from lifts, scaffolding, and high platforms, balance, stoop,
  • kneel, crouch and crawl to gain access to areas.
  • Must be able to work in small, confined spaces and from heights.
  • Needs good dexterity in small tedious work and coordination in heavier
  • demanding tasks.
  • Needs good field of vision acuity, depth perception, field of vision and color vision in carrying out assigned tasks and reading a variety of hand tools and meters.
  • Required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college coursework
  • Experience in higher education

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

None.
