Boone Publications, Inc., publishers of The Demopolis Times and related digital products, seeks a General Assignment Reporter to cover the news, people, places and events important to residents in Demopolis and Marengo County.
Applicants must have experience in producing community journalism or experience in a similar field. The successful candidate must be organized, have an optimistic personality, enjoy meeting new people, and understand what makes a community newspaper important to its readers. They must also understand small town life and be enthusiastic about getting involved in the community they serve while practicing true community journalism by covering topics of interest in our communities.
This full-time position requires a commitment to providing accurate coverage and meeting assigned deadlines. Some evening and weekend work is required, but the flexible schedule allows our reporters to find a suitable work-life balance while representing the newspaper out in the community. Availability during the standard Monday-Friday work week is vital and candidates must be willing to be responsive to timely coverage assignments.
The position offers an excellent income, with health, dental, and vision insurance, 401K, and other benefits including paid vacation. There are also advancement opportunities within our parent company, Boone Newsmedia, Inc., which publishes more than 90 newspapers in 12 states.
