Job Description: 

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Office of Community Relations (CRO) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as the Social Media Manager to help further the agency's mission. The Office of Community Relations coordinates the public communication efforts of FWC's divisions and offices to educate Floridians and visitors about the role and value of Florida's fish and wildlife resources and to foster a sense of stewardship for these resources. These efforts include posting content on multiple social media platforms and providing audio-visual support at up to five commission meetings per year, and at public outreach events. This position serves as the primary social media contact for the Office of Community Relations Office and the agency. 

 

The FWC has an atmosphere of people who are passionate about what they do and have a strong desire to help residents and visitors of Florida while balancing the needs of the state's fish and wildlife resources. 

 

The successful candidate for the Social Media Manager position will be proactive and passionate about the agency's success and the public's perception of the agency. 

 

This position reports to the Office of Community Relations Deputy Director and will work closely with the Community Relations Director, Audio Visual Team Leader, the Creative Services team, the Budget Manager, and other agency staff as and when needed.  

 

 

Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Strategically manages the FWC's social media presence across multiple platforms.  

  • Coordinates with Media Services staff for continuity and strength of outreach.  

  • Works closely with the Community Relations Director and Deputy Director on timing and priority messaging.  

  • Manages the operational aspects of social media including digital advertising and an advertising budget.  

  • Stays current on social media platforms and actively searches for ways to enhance agency messaging.  

  • Coordinates with Public lnformation Coordinators and social media managers across divisions and offices for content and approvals. Coordinates with partner agencies on messaging when necessary.  

  • Manages the Social Media Section of Community Relations and supervises the positions in the Section, communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating the employees, planning and directing their work, as well as human resources related duties such as hiring and discipline.  

  • Performs other duties as required.  

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Skilled in social media platforms including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr. Must be an experienced visual storyteller.  

  • Knowledge of producing Stories/Reels, HootSuite, Canva, and a variety of video and photo editing software with both laptop and phone apps.  

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud applications.  

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong critical thinking, self-motivated, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time.  

  • Experience in using Microsoft 365 apps including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.  

  • Ability to listen effectively, understand and evaluate information/data.  

  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, manage and complete projects according to established deadlines.  

  • Ability to quickly and effectively prioritize and process information and requests from external and internal sources.  

  • Ability to positively communicate and build relationships with a variety of professionals including staff and vendors.  

  • Ability to supervise staff members.  

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 

  • Ability to work independently and on teams. 

 

Preferred Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school, or community college in a related field.  

  • Professional experience as described above can substitute for the required college education. 

 

Additional Requirements:

Work at the FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross Division/Office lines.The FWC expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed. 

 

Responsible for following the provisions and requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, related to the Department of Financial Services rules and FWC's invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.
