Position: Part-time GED Instructor

Duties: Provide GED instruction to adult students for the GED exam subject Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

Salary: $38.12

General Description

The GED Test Preparation is a comprehensive program designed to prepare student to pass the GED and obtain their High School Equivalency diploma by learning test-taking strategies in the four GED content areas and practice sample questions similar to those on the State exam.

The program is targeted to serve adults from the ages 19 and above, from throughout New York City. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the experienced High School Equivalency GED instructor must provide instruction in mathematic, science, reading, writing and social studies. The instructor will be responsible for daily classroom instruction & student assessment. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching adult students, with demonstrated knowledge and experience writing thematic-based and/or contextualized curricula.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The GED Instructor will:

• Develop lesson plans and adjust instruction according to the various learning styles of program participants. Maintain a collaborative learning environment.
• Facilitate instruction in all assigned subject areas of the GED exam (Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science).
• Plan, prepare and instruct lessons in accordance with the curriculum and using a variety of methodologies with the purpose of building GED content knowledge and skills.
• Attend Mandatory instructional workshops
• Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and staff well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback and weekly assessments.
• Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
• Monitor students’ performance and attendance for required reporting systems.
• Lead engagement and follow-up efforts to ensure participants’ progress towards positive outcomes.
• Implement strategies to maximize student learning and retention

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or comparable field required. Master’s Degree in Education preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience teaching young adult learners of varied ages, levels, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of ABE and HSE curricula, testing procedures and requirements.
• Demonstrated ability in youth development
