Overview
Provide engineering support for plant activity which has an impact on gear set quality. Plan and organize the gear development, and manufacturing activities as necessary to correct problems and improve processes in the manufacture of gear sets.
Job Responsibilities
The Gear Engineer has the responsibility and authority to: Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process and quality systems, identify and record any product, process and quality system problems. Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels, control further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming gear sets until the condition has been corrected as defined by applicable procedures and or by delegation of Gear Technology, verify the implementations of solutions, ensures through familiarity with policies and procedures relating to standards of business conduct and understands the importance of full compliance and spirit of such policies and procedures.
Design and implement systems to improve gear set processing flow, assists in quality planning and implementation of quality policy in accordance with plant guidelines and customer expectations.
Release and approve all gear developments while interfacing with Gear Technology and Product Engineering. Serve as gear manufacturing liaison to Product Engineering, Supplier Quality Assurance, Metallurgy and outside sourcing for gearing.
Write AR's and provide justification for the purchase of capital equipment, manage budgets and Capital Plan projects to achieve timing and budgetary goals
Provide and analyze data for Cost Reduction, Capital Plan, AOP, Safety and Ergonomics, thru put improvement, process changes, and labor standards in support of Process Engineering.
Supports the PCCR system by providing accurate and timely cost estimates.
Develops resources for improvements in gear set processing by keeping abreast of technological innovations, provides training and instruction for development, manufacturing and assembly of the gear set.
