Overview:Spectrum Healthcare Resources is seeking a dedicated and skilled Gastroenterology Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will uphold our values of professionalism, respect, and exceptional patient care. As a Gastroenterology Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting physicians during gastroenterological procedures, maintaining equipment, ensuring patient safety, and delivering high-quality care.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Treat all staff members and patients with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure presence of all instruments, equipment, and supplies necessary for gastroenterological procedures according to physician preferences and established standards.
  • Inspect and maintain gastroenterological equipment, ensuring proper care and handling.
  • Set up clean fields for various gastroenterological procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, ERCP, esophageal pH testing, pill camera endoscopy, paracentesis, manometry, liver biopsy, and PEG placement.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area, practicing economy in the use of supplies and checking for expiration dates.
  • Stay informed about professional and practice issues related to gastroenterology.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility requirements and safety standards.
  • Assist physicians and RNs during diagnostic, therapeutic, and medical emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate. Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program (national, state, or military equivalent) with a current certificate.
  • Certifications: Must be certified in phlebotomy. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) recommended. Certifications must be through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Training in ACLS, PALS, and NRP may be provided.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in a medical setting within the past 36 months. Prior GI experience is a plus. Knowledge of anatomy, aseptic technique, medical equipment handling, GI procedures, infection control, and patient interaction required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient transport and equipment. Dexterity in instrument use.
  • Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and meet demands of physicians.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with step-by-step procedures for various gastroenterology cases.
