Job description

Gas Engineering Coordinator
Salary Range - $63,897.60 - $99,028.80
Under general direction, performs technical engineering work, project management duties, and supervisory work in the preparation and coordination of work orders used in the construction and maintenance of the gas distribution system; manages and coordinates the work of assigned staff; performs engineering field supervision of construction projects by Gas Department personnel and contractors; oversees and manages the Geographical Information System (GIS) for the Gas Department; serves as Gas Department liaison to GIS Department staff; oversees and manages the Gas Department's Work Order and Asset Management Systems; serves as Gas Department liaison to the GIS Senior Systems Analyst; performs special projects and serves on special committees as assigned by the Director and Engineers; performs other work as required.
Essential Functions
Provides general project management for projects; manages and coordinates the preparation of plans and work orders used in the construction and maintenance of the gas distribution system; coordinates and supervises various activities related to time and cost estimating, mapping, record keeping, easement and encroachment acquisition, and review of design plans and engineering specifications; makes detailed cost estimates of projects including labor, equipment, and material costs; conducts surveys and studies based on economic and engineering practices in order to prepare plans for proposed construction projects; provides direct supervision of the Gas Engineering Assistants, manages and trains assigned engineering personnel and provides assistance as required, applying knowledge of engineering and construction best practices; coordinates with other utilities, and city and government agencies, to avoid conflicts of utility construction projects; assists with survey work necessary to establish property lines, ditch and curb locations, and determines desired location for proposed facilities; provides assistance to Gas Department construction and service crews, and contractors, with detailed project overviews, work to be performed, and in-field corrections; prepares easement and encroachment drawings and agreements as necessary to cross private properties, roadways, and railroads; oversees and manages the Department's GIS system, including QA/QC of all data edits, data analysis and system traces, changes and enhancements to system, and training of end-users; serves as Department liaison to GIS staff, providing assistance and recommendations for system enhancements; oversees and manages the Department's Work Order and Asset Management Systems, including system configuration and maintenance, work flow design, management of employees and crews, assets, and scheduled inspections, and training of end-users; serves as Department's liaison to the GIS Senior Systems Analyst, and I.T. staff, providing recommendations for software functionality, application development and modifications, and reporting needs; reviews and approves development plans and plats for conformance of policies, procedures, and regulations, and to identify potential conflicts; fills in for some duties during the absence of the Gas Systems Engineer; prepares presentations for the Gas Department and other departments throughout the Commission; provides direct support to General Manager's office and Department Director for special projects by providing estimates, presentations, and attendance at meetings with in-house departments and various outside agencies; serves as Gas Department representative of various committees as assigned; performs other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Associate degree from an accredited college
  • Over three years of experience
  • Valid Driver's License

The work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
