Garden Center Cashier

Van Putte Gardens is an award-winning Garden Center and landscape company that specializes in high-end residential and commercial projects throughout the Western NY area. We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic full-time and part-time seasonal cashier to join our rapidly growing company that has been in business for over 75 years in the Rochester, NY area.

Job Duties:

• Work directly on sales floor, and registers, throughout the store, assisting customers.
• Quickly and accurately check customers out through our point of sales system.
• Maintain store appearance with general cleaning, caring for plants, dusting, pricing, stocking, receiving deliveries and displaying merchandise.
• Take orders over the phone and answer general customer questions in an accurate, friendly and timely manner.
• Diagnose and suggest treatments for plants with insect, disease and nutrient problems.
• Must be a fast problem solver.

Qualifications:

• Have a positive attitude, professional demeanor and communication skills.
• Must be a self-motivated and organized team player.
• Past retail and POS register experience - preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Be able to read, write, and perform basic math (addition, subtraction).
• Plant knowledge a plus!

Physical Requirements:

• Bend, lift, walk or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Requires standing/walking on hard surface during the entire shift.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.

Schedule Requirements:

• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet business needs.
• One weekend day required.
• Seasonal Position.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 50 per week
