The History of the Fellowship
Through the generosity of Robert and Colleen Haas an endowed Teaching Fellowship has been established in memory of Mrs. Bess K. Gallard. Mrs. Gallard, the mother of Mrs. Haas, was a teacher in the Los Angeles unified school system. The Gallard Teaching Fellowship recognizes and duly honors her lifetime of dedication to children of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.The history of the fellowship has been a partnership between Branson and Morehouse & Spelman. Currently Branson has expanded this opportunity to any graduating seniors or recent alums from HBCU's to promote racial and cultural diversity in education. Additionally, it is Branson's hope that Mrs. Gallard's teaching philosophy, via the Fellowship, will inspire and encourage each Gallard Teaching Fellow to devote his or her life to the profession of teaching.
Position Description
Depending upon background and qualifications, the Teaching Fellow teaches in one or more academic departments and/or supports an administrative department at the school. The Teaching Fellow is expected to observe and team-teach under the guidance of a mentor with the intent of eventually teaching one or more classes. He or she will also work under an Administrative mentor and is expected to job shadow members of the administration and staff of that prospective Administrative Department. Annual Salary $65,000.00 plus housing option.
Work Requirements
The Teaching Fellow may handle a wide range of tasks related to teaching and administration. This person must be team oriented, organized, energetic, and enjoy the challenges of working with diverse groups of people. He or she must have the ability to remain composed in a fast-paced environment and able to manage discreet projects.
This role requires that the individual be a self-starter with the ability to immerse his- or herself in the Branson Community. Most importantly, the Teaching Fellow must enjoy the independent school environment and interacting with teenagers.
Responsibilities of the Gallard Teaching Fellow

Functions & Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities:

  • Observe and team-teach under the guidance of a mentor teacher with the intent of eventually teaching one or more classes.
  • Attend meetings with mentor teacher to discuss performance and curriculum development.
  • Observe classes in a variety of academic departments.
  • Develop and teach elective courses.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Observe/job shadow members of the administration and staff.
  • Coach a sport and /or advise a student organization.

Other Responsibilities
  • Support the Diversity Committee initiatives and work on specific projects as needed.
  • Handle other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from HBCU College.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Self-starter who can work effectively as a team member and independently.
  • Collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented.
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to reach and extend arms in any direction.
  • Must be able to push and pull equipment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods.
