Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to [specific location where employee is expected to report] three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
The Role
As a Virtual Future Program Ergonomist, you will be responsible for the identification and resolution of ergonomic issues during the virtual phases of the GVDP, which will drive the reduction of injuries and manufacturing inefficiencies on GM's next generation of industry leading EV SUVs and Trucks.
The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment will be critical to your success. You will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as product design and manufacturing, as well as outside suppliers and UAW representatives.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Act as the subject matter expert in the field of ergonomics, supporting all virtual manufacturing ergonomic activities for New & Major vehicle programs, ensuring manufacturing ergonomics requirements are met.
  • Conduct Ergonomic risk analysis of new product designs and establish threshold limit vales.
  • Manage all ergonomic issues to closure and coordinate follow-up through appropriate engineering team, including providing status and escalation as required to all levels of program leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with product designers, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering and assembly plant personnel, including UAW and non-UAW.
  • Use 3D Virtual Digital Human Model (DHM) Simulations to determine acceptable manufacturing ergonomic parameters for new vehicle product assembly.
  • Support manufacturing operations ergonomics by bringing current plant ergonomics issues to the appropriate design and manufacturing engineers for resolution in order to design out similar ergonomic concerns on Future Programs.
  • Participate and lead as appropriate specific ergonomics initiatives/projects as needed.
  • Provide timely written reports and updates on specific ergonomics projects.

Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • 1+ years of proficiency with ergonomic analytical tools
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic manufacturing projects
  • High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills-ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • High level of analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple customers at the same time
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Automotive experience
  • Powertrain, castings, transmission, battery experience
  • AutoCAD and CAD/UG working with 3 Dimensional Human Modeling Simulation or advance computer skills
  • Course work in ergonomics or degree in ergonomics, human kinetics or related ergonomics degree
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions

This position is not eligible for ISP, ITAP, or localizations.
