Job description

Plan, direct and coordinate the operations of four Funeral Homes and a small cemetery. Duties and responsibilities include administering and maintaining company policies and procedures, managing daily operations in compliance with all company policies and procedures, governmental regulations and generally accepted and applied principles and practices of funeral service and the planning and use of materials and human resources. Some elements are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing or administrative services. Funeral home location managers are under the immediate and direct supervision of the general manager/owner. Candidate must have years of experience as a licensed funeral director to be considered for the position. Previous years of Funeral Home management is preferred.

Tasks: (Note: The tasks described herein are in addition to those described in the job description for a funeral arranger/funeral director. Furthermore, the tasks described below do not represent a complete listing of possible tasks required in the full scope of a Funeral Home location manager’s duties, but are listed as a general overview of some of the required tasks associated with the position of Funeral Home location manager. It is understood that the position of Funeral Home Manager will specifically entail the duties of a funeral director/funeral arranger and receptionist/administrative assistant. The position will be expected to occasionally perform reasonable and related tasks pertaining to general funeral service operations that are not specifically listed.)

  • Conduct all duties in compliance with all company policies and procedures, all governmental regulations and generally accepted and applied principles and practices of funeral service.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of the location regarding productivity, pricing, sales, quality control and cost containment.
  • Maintain all facilities and equipment in clean, orderly, safe and functional manner.
  • Manage staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties.
  • Possess and maintain a positive attitude, being supportive of new products, policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement, working directly with general management and company officers to determine areas needing cost reduction, revenue enhancement and program improvement.
  • Monitor, review and control account receivables for the location.
  • Monitor, review and control pre-need sales for the location.
  • Administer and maintain company policies and procedures, goals and objectives conferring with other managers, general management, company officers and staff members as necessary.
  • Determine staffing requirements and work with general management in securing necessary staff.
  • Determine supply and equipment requirements for the location.
  • Oversee activities directly related to selling products or providing services.
  • Assist in the determination of merchandise to be sold.
  • Monitor, review and control the inventory and sale of merchandise into and out of the location.
  • Continually train, monitor and constructively correct the location staff’s work performance to meet company expectations.
  • Be active and involved in extracurricular community organizations and activities on a continual basis.
  • Possess and maintain a current and valid Nevada State driver’s license.

Knowledge:

Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources.

Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Economics and Accounting — Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data to the appropriate company officers and other authorized individuals and entities.

Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote the safety, health and welfare of the public, company employees and for the protection of people, data, information and property.

Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration Compliance – Must possess and maintain a working knowledge and practice of OSHA policies and procedures at all times, as they apply to the position.
