Job Summary
At Mad Science, we are having a BLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about.
As a Mad Scientist, you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities, and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of fun science programs for elementary-aged children.
This is a part-time to semi-full-time position and is somewhat seasonal. Pay for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly - including set-up and clean-up time. Starting pay is $22.50-$30 per hour DOE. If you teach 5 one-hour classes per week you will make approximately $225-$300 per week. There ARE some opportunities for more classes/hours for those with the availability.
We are currently looking for energetic individuals to join our growing team to conduct exciting science, engineering, and technology programs during after-school and morning time slots. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher (although we love that!).
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school
  • Deliver high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8-10 weeks.
  • Drive to various locations across Maine.
  • Enjoy teaching young children the art of science!
  • Attend paid training sessions virtually and/or at our office.
  • Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid).
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Be on time for all scheduled activities.
  • Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • Some experience working with groups of elementary-age (4-12) children (such as an after-school teacher or camp counselor).
  • Must be available at least two weekday afternoons between the hours of 12:00 and 5:00 PM. While this is a part-time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (camp session, after-school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
  • Must have reliable transportation as you will be transporting equipment and conducting programs across our territory.
  • Minimum of 1 year of college suggested. Degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus.
  • Maintain a fun, flexible, & outgoing personality!
  • We are especially looking for instructors in the following areas and counties:
    • Knox/Lincoln Counties, ME
    • Freeport/Brunswick, ME
    • Greater Portland Area, ME
    • Rockingham/Strafford counties, NH
We train you in the curriculum and provide all materials. Mad Science classes follow the school calendar and are presented year-round. This is rewarding work if it fits with your schedule and lifestyle.
We also provide great opportunities for growth for those with a great passion for what we do! Wish you could help with Sales? Office work? Let us know! We pride ourselves on our amazing team and great company culture. 401K benefits are available after meeting basic requirements.
