Job description

Movement is actively looking to build diverse routesetting teams that represent the communities we serve. We’re seeking a creative and passionate individual with some setting experience to join our setting team in the Belmont location as a full-time Routesetter. Reporting to the Head Routesetter at your primary location, you will be responsible for creating and collaborating with the team on high-quality, safe, and engaging climbs for our community.

About the role

As a Routesetter with Movement, you’ll be joining a collaborative, innovative, and passionate team of setters to develop high-quality, safe, and engaging climbs for our community. This opportunity is for a creative and hard-working individual with some setting experience, either through an apprenticeship or other setting environment. Reporting to the Head Routesetter of your home gym, you’ll be responsible for managing the workflow of your day in an efficient and productive manner.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prepare setting area (boundaries, fixed lines, etc.)
  • Strip wall sections to prepare for new routes/problems
  • Set high quality skeletons on all types of terrain
  • Maintain tidy setting area throughout the day, and help clean area at the end of the day
  • Adhere to and promote workplace safety expectations (Work at Height standards, etc.)
  • Forerunning
    • Climb and help grade the routes/problems that are set each day
    • Be open to feedback and willing to make necessary changes to meet Movement’s quality and safety standards
    • Ensure all routes and problems are safe, can be executed in a manner that is appropriate for the assigned grade, and that are accessible to a wide range of customers
  • Additional tasks and projects as assigned, based on needs of the gyms (including but not limited to: washing and sorting holds, assisting with anchor/safety inspections, setting for and working setting-related events and competitions, attending required meetings)

What success looks like:

  • You’re reliably setting high quality skeletons, forerunning, and grading routes/problems effectively
  • You’re able to operate independently, with some guidance on new assignments
  • You’ve demonstrated efficiency and creativity, with an openness to constructive feedback from fellow team members and the Movement community
  • You have an understanding of Movement’s quality of product and aesthetic standards
  • You consistently meet the setting quota for each day (# of routes/problems)

 

What you’ll bring with you

Gotta have:

  • Some experience on a route setting team, either through an apprenticeship or other setting environment
  • Strong understanding of Work at Height standards and other workplace safety expectations
  • Strong desire to further explore the craft of routesetting
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
  • Solid work ethic and the ability to manage your own workflow
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate effectively – communication is your jam and you do well with constructive feedback
  • The ability to follow and promote safe practices at all times

Bonus points for:

  • Lead climbing proficiency
  • Ability to climb at least 5.11 and/or V5

Additional Details

• This is a full-time, hourly position

• Compensation for this role starts at $23 - $27/hour, commensurate with experience

• This role is based in Belmont – applicants will be assigned a primary location but must be available to work at all regional locations
