Pemberton Farms is a fourth-generation, family-owned specialty grocery store and has been an integral part of the Cambridge community for over 90 years! Pemberton boasts a busy deli, year-round garden center, gift basket operation and beer wine and liquor section. We are known for our elegant presentation of local produce and other New England specialty products, as well as our community outreach programs. We pride ourselves on exceptional quality and customer service and seek staff members who want to contribute to our mission. We are currently looking to hire two full-time Produce Associates to assist in our busy produce department. The schedule will run from 6am-2pm, with Thursdays and Saturdays being our more flexible days off.
Position Summary:
To assist with selecting, pricing, and promoting fresh, organic, and local produce. Primarily responsible for daily department stocking and merchandising.
Responsibilities:
- Receive produce deliveries or oversee receiving, following established receiving procedures
- Create attractive produce displays, using color and texture to enhance.
- Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, culled several times daily. Set quality standards for culling.
- Select items for specials; mark down items as needed to reduce losses.
- Assist customers with produce questions and special orders.
- Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner.
- Maintain clear, attractive, consistent signage.
- Trim, wash, bundle produce as needed.
- Maintain produce display, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
- Perform other tasks assigned by Manager.
- Participate in setting sales and margin goals for department.
Qualifications:
- Cheerful demeanor and ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Experience in retail produce.
- Communications skills--good listener who can follow instructions
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
- MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK: DAYS, NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
Dress Code:
- Closed toe shoes with non-slip soles are required. Non-Pemberton logoed shirts, sleeveless shirts, exposed undergarments, yoga pants, gym pants, shorts and non-Pemberton hats are unacceptable.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
