Qualifications:
LPN or RN Certified with experience in pediatric skilled nursing i.e. gastric tubes, trachs, ventilators, seizure disorders, catheterizations, etc.
Flexibility with schedule relative to student or building assignment
Hours: Vary each day depending on the needs of the students within the classroom
Additional Information:
This position is responsible for assisting the health needs of students according to district policies and school procedures under the guidance and direction of the Certified School Nurse. Responsibility includes regular education and special education students aged 4 to 21 in the classroom and at alternative meetings.
The 1:1 school nurse provides for safe one-to-one skilled care in the school setting, adhering to nursing standards and the appropriate nurse practice act. This individual will provide skilled nursing care for students with multiple disabilities. If needed, accompanying students to and from school on the bus to provide medical needs. This individual will follow the plan of care provided by the student's home agency and/or the licensed providers office.
Duties:
Staff district Health Rooms due to call offs or re-assignments.
Supplement staffing when assistance if needed with screenings, data collection/entering, Health Room maintenance, lunches, or office time.
Service students with multiple disabilities (MDS). Duties include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate student care in consultation with Health Services Supervisor and Certified School Nurse for that building
- Be aware of and follow student's Medical Plan of Care/IHP
- Be aware of and follow student's Transportation Plan
- If needed, meet student at the student's home and accompany students on the bus to school if warranted. Nurse will not enter the student's home.
- If needed, at the end of the day, accompany the student on the bus home if warranted. Nurse will not enter the student's home.
- Work with teacher and para educators in the classroom to coordinate physical care of student with academic expectations.
- Provide daily update to Health Services Supervisor on students day
- Administer medications to students as directed in medical plan of care
- Ensure proper documentation of daily care and needs of students
- Communicate concerns or questions directly with the Health Services Supervisor and Certified School Nurse, who will make appropriate follow up with parents or physician.
Minimum starting rate $22.00 per hour.
