Position Information

Position Title
Full-Time Diesel Power Technology Faculty

Job Summary

The instructor for this full-time tenure track position will teach both beginning and advanced diesel power courses, including laboratory components. The selected candidate should be able to teach curriculum including, but not limited to, areas of mobile electronics, hydraulics, transmissions, final drive, and engine overhaul. Additionally, the instructor must be able to work with students from a wide range of academic preparedness, understand community college goals and philosophy, teach using a variety of formats, and collaborate with other faculty in professional activities. The normal teaching load is 15 contact hours (4-5 courses) per semester, which may include some online, evening, weekend, or off-campus (dual-credit) classes. Candidates must exhibit an effective teaching style that supports a diverse student body. On-campus presence is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The selected candidate will demonstrate a commitment to education and a willingness to teach a broad range of courses including beginning and advanced diesel courses designed to prepare students for employment in the on-road and off-road diesel industry.
The instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering instruction for 21st century learners and assessing student learning outcomes as appropriate to ensure academic quality.
The candidate will be an engaged learning facilitator/instructor who will utilize a range of teaching and learning strategies to foster active learning and student success, which contributes to the fulfillment of the College's strategic goals.
The candidate must possess industry expertise to effectively market career opportunities, recruit students, and improve curriculum.
Successful candidates are expected to participate in activities or on committees that contribute to the success of students.

Required Qualifications
• Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel Power Technology, Agricultural Mechanics, or a related major from a fully accredited college or university and 6,000 hours of related work experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in a range of diesel power technology subjects including mobile electronics, hydraulics, transmissions, final drive, and engine overhaul.
• Demonstration of a commitment to community college goals and philosophy. Must communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications
• Community college teaching experience. Applicants should be willing to teach using alternative delivery methods.
• Familiarity with the current landscape of Career and Technical education, technical training, workforce partnerships.

Physical Demands
• Position generally requires moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of 50 pounds, carrying books, supplies, equipment, instruments, and tools. The job requires varying amounts of sitting, standing, and walking.
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
• Must possess a valid, current driver's license.
• Special physical requirements necessary for performance of the job
• May require strenuous lifting (up to 50 pounds), along with bending, walking, and climbing.
• Ability to lift and move tools, toolboxes, and equipment from tool room to shop floor for demonstrations and student use.
• Ability to lift and move tools, toolboxes, and equipment from one area of shop to another.
• Ability to climb up onto large equipment to reach cabs and engines for helping students during lab/shop time.
• Ability to get underneath equipment as needed for teaching and helping students during shop time.
