The Osage County Sheriff's Office has an immediate opening for a Detention Officer in our jail. While experience isn't a requirement, it is preferred. You must be 19 years old, possess a valid Missouri drivers license, and a high school diploma or GED Certificate. If you have ANY law enforcement convictions or any pending court actions we need to know. You cannot be on Probation / Parole. Background checks are required in our interview process. If you have any felonies you will be disqualified. Certain misdemeanors will also disqualify you. Disclose everything; no matter how old the issue may be. If you work for a bonding agency, you must cease all functions as a bondsman for consideration. We expect honesty. All personnel are paid every two weeks.

Detention Officer / Jailer (Job Description):

Detention Officers, are responsible for the safety, security and well-being of the inmates that are incarcerated in the Osage County Detention Center. Detention Officers have the responsibility of enforcing the regulations of the jail, maintaining the peace in the jail, in and out processing, administering medications, and general security of the facility. Detention Officers will complete a daily report of their activities. Other functions of Detention Officers are designated by the Detention Lieutenant, Detention Sergeant, Sheriff, or the Sheriff’s Captain. The Detention Officer reports directly to the Detention Corporal/Sergeant.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Processing Inmates into the detention center, booking, mugshots, fingerprinting, DNA testing, inmate property inventory and oversight of facility rules/regulations.

Direct supervision of inmates while maintaining jail security, random physical well-being checks, serve three meals daily, pass prescribed medications, provide recreation, visitation and hygiene items.

Preparation and maintenance of various inmate records, inspection of inmate mail, monitoring of inmate phone calls.

Supervising inmates can be a difficult task. You will encounter subjects under the influence (Drugs and/or Alcohol), subjects with unpleasant moods, and subjects who require immediate medical attention. You must be able to handle this potentially stressful environment.

Detention Officers report to the Detention Corporal / Sergeant.

Minimum Requirements:

At least 19 years old, valid drivers license, high school diploma / GED, detailed background check, criminal history check, motor vehicle check and drug screen. 180 day probationary period (experience dependent).
