Full Stack Developer Lead

Simplot Company is a true farm-to-table company with operations that touch every aspect of agriculture, including seed production, farming and ranching, plant sciences, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, commercial product development, and distribution.

Summary

Simplot is looking for a talented engineer to lead the development activities in supporting our best-in-class digital agronomic tool.  This is a cloud (Azure) based product that is developed using React, C#, and leverages ESRI ArcGIS online for mapping.  The solution is custom built from the ground up and provides an exciting opportunity for a developer to be a part of a team, working on a core product supporting Simplot’s strategic direction.  

This engineer should have experience being the technical leader of a product. They should expect to continuously work with key stakeholders to align on work priority and organize how to execute against the business strategy. This engineer will be expected to design, develop, test, and implement features and enhancements but more often will focus on enabling the other developers on the team to be successful in those activities. This engineer will provide technical expertise to the business stakeholders and collaborate with other IT teams to adhere to the consistent application of standards and practices. This engineer will also work to contribute their own technical expertise to the evolution of those standards and practices.

This engineer will be expected to work with trusted vendor partners and maintain consistent work between Simplot engineers and contract engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide development team in developing features, enhancements, and bug fixes for the product. 

  • Maintain product with evolving IT Standards & Practices.

  • Work with stakeholders, business analysts, and other project teams to deliver additional functionality to the tool. 

  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with the business teams and end-users of the system. 

  • Drive knowledge sharing between teams to continually improve our overall knowledge base. 

  • Undertake problem and root cause analysis to drive and deliver production system fixes and enhancements. 

  • Manage production deployments with vendors or internal IT Teams to ensure timely resolution to defects and enhancements when required. 

  • Perform unit testing of deployments in development environment to ensure minimal customer impacts. 

  • Work as a member of a development team to provide high quality and timely solutions.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in software development (a combination of education and experience will be considered) 

  • Experience in event-driven architecture, message-based architecture, containerization, and/or domain-driven design a plus. 

  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas: software development, C#, JavaScript, React, TypeScript, cloud (Azure/AWS), CI/CD pipelines, IaC, source control, object oriented principles, common software design patterns, and software development best practices. 

  • Strong skills in source control management (preferably Git). 

  • Experience with current versions of .NET (application is .NET 6) and Entity Framework. 

  • Experience in database development using SQL. 

  • Willingness to participate in a learning culture where you contribute to leveraging new and existing technologies and work to educate the rest of the team. 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with cloud technologies preferably Azure 

  • Experience with serverless preferably Azure Functions 

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-code preferably Terraform 

  • Expertise in event-driven architecture, message-based architecture, containerization, and/or domain-driven design a plus.
