Adult and Teen Librarian - EVPL McCollough

Starting rate of pay: $51,600

Hours: Full-time 40 hours

Must be available to work early morning shifts and all public service hours; which includes weekends and occasional Sundays.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Librarian will support the work of the library and any specific subject matter areas as identified or assigned, based upon present and future community needs, resources, staff expertise, and innovative practices related to a subject area and/or library and information. The Librarian is responsible for ensuring library patrons have necessary resources to learn and explore topics of interest through the creation of educational programs and fostering meaningful community relationships. The work of the Librarian builds upon the work of Library Assistants and Assistant Librarians in engaging with patrons, providing programs and services, and being information professionals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In cooperation with EVPL colleagues, the Librarian will advance the library’s mission, vision, strategic priorities, and brand. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively be involved in community/civic engagement that relates to the work of the Librarian but also supports the community and the library.
  • Identify and cultivate regional or local community relationships that advance the mission, vision, and/or strategic initiatives of the library system.
  • Interact with library patrons, colleagues, and community members across multiple points of service in a library facility, designated outreach/engagement locations, online or via telephone in a manner that contributes to a delightful library experience.
  • Assist and educate patrons over the phone or in-person in technology relating to library or personal use including computers, internet, eBooks or eReaders, hardware, software, digital catalog, digital accounts, scanners, printers or other various software, and accessing materials via the internet.
  • Handle escalated patron contacts with compassion, grace, and authority.
  • Curate, manage, and create content (experiences, programs, services, and materials) with colleagues, patrons, and partner agencies to support outcomes, create community impact, and generate community capital.
  • Coordinate and/or provide professional consultation or instruction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage library and community resources, including but not limited to monetary resources, volunteers, materials, space, human capital, and time.
  • May act as a Person in Charge at a location, employing sound decision making skills and the ability to utilize EVPL trainings and procedures in the moment.
  • Direct or facilitate in-person, telephone, or virtual patron interactions at designated service points in and outside of library facilities, in collaboration with colleagues, to ensure a delightful experience.
  • Participate in special projects, or other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic:


  • Master’s degree from a School of Library and/or Information Science program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in direct customer service.
  • 2+ years’ experience with a variety of computer hardware and software systems (printers, digital catalogs, eReaders, etc.).
  • Enthusiasm for reading, listening, viewing, and learning.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Google Suite products.
  • Must obtain and maintain, through professional development credits, an Indiana State Library professional librarian LC 3 certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

Preferred:


  • 2+ years’ experience working in a library and/or with the area of practice assigned.
  • 2+ years’ experience creating and curating content designed to support community impact and engagement.
  • 1+ years’ experience in resource management.
  • 1+ years’ experience in research and evaluation methodologies.
  • A continuous learner with a welcoming attitude, a collaborative work ethic, and a desire to go above and beyond to serve our diverse community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This position requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing. Work frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, lifting, and repetitive motions. Work occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, and pushing or pulling. This position requires close vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing or analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
