Job description

Griffith Foods is a global manufacturer of food products. We provide a wide range of taste and texture components for food industry customers throughout the world. Our products include seasoning blends, dry mixes, coating systems, dough blends, crumbs, flavors, sauces and food bases that are used in an extensive variety of application from snack foods and processed meat and poultry to ready meals. Our customers include food processors, restaurant operators and grocery retailers. Location: Alsip, IL
Summary: Assures effective systems are implemented to provide for safe, wholesome, authentic, and quality products that meet Griffith US FSQS, customer, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans and oversees the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure food safety and quality of products, components, and processes.
  • Develop plant and departmental FSQS related goals and objectives consistent with US goals.
  • Reviews data obtained during quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
  • Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
  • Maintains current HACCP and Food Safety plan. Leads HACCP Team and assures all products are manufactured using a current, accurate HACCP and Food Safety Plan.
  • Reviews data and provides disposition where results are out of specification.
  • Customer Complaint management including investigating, responding to, and resolving all customer complaints.
  • Actively involved in the disposition of nonconforming finished product and raw materials, this includes returns, damaged and outdated product, or material.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
  • Review documentation for compliance with stated requirements including customer quality manuals, company policies / procedures, quality audit criteria and regulatory requirements.
  • Assures only approved suppliers and supplier locations are used to purchase ingredients / materials and COA's are reviewed for all incoming ingredient lots.
  • Approves sanitary design of plant equipment.
  • Maintain document control system for food safety, quality and business management systems.
  • Represent QS in Plant Management meetings, Customer, FDA and State Inspections.
  • Primary contact and management of Recall team and program.
  • Develop / maintain an internal manufacturing process audit to ensure company personnel are following work instructions, GLPs, GMPs, and FDA regulations (as well as special production instructions).
  • Maintain plant readiness for, and be actively involved in, all external audits (i.e. customer and FDA).
  • Issue periodic summaries of quality performance as measured by customer complaints, internal errors, audit results and supplier performance.
  • Serve as technical liaison, aiding and communication to customers, plant management and US functions.
  • Proactively builds a Quality-to-Quality relationship with strategic customers via phone and/or customer plant visits.
  • Drive continuous improvement at the local level through leading of projects to include but not limited to product testing, improved technology, and training
  • Select, manage, and review Pest Control service provider to ensure effective pest management program in place.
  • Responsible for hiring, discipline, performance review and overall management of plant Quality staff.
  • Prepare and manage department budgets.
  • Approves all changes in methodology, equipment, and test frequency.
  • Implements quality training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
  • Drives and supports culture of food safety and employee safety.
  • Perform testing and handle other FSQS related projects, as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science; preferable in Food Science, Chemistry or Microbiology.
  • 5+ years of food safety and quality experience with increasing levels of responsibility and in management.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of GFSI requirements.
  • Exceptional communication skills from peer to peer, subordinates, senior management, suppliers, and customers is critical.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams.
  • Must be able to travel up to 20%.
